Description

FRANK ZAPPA (AND THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION) - 'LUMPY GRAVY.' Rarer MONO!
UK 1st pressing on black/silver VERVE labels. VLP 9223 (1967/1968). First issue matrix and glossy laminated top flipback gatefold sleeve. 'SOLD IN UK...' label text. Heavy vinyl.
Vinyl weight and matrix details to follow soon.

Please note photos 1 and 2 are a bit blurry.

Major Frank Zappa rarity. Do not underestimate how rare this is as a UK pressing. It is hardly ever seen. Stereo copies occasionally surface, but rarely UK monos. Near Mint examples have been known to fetch £500 or more between dealers and private collectors.

UK front laminated flipback Gatefold sleeve grades full EXCELLENT condition. Intact, fully legible WIDE SPINE and large font/text. Clean and solid condition with moderate signs of age and handling wear. Inside gatefold is still clean and just off white with the laminated flipback flaps appearing over the top of the gatefold interior. Glossy laminate has a few creases toward the edge of the spine.
I have seen only a handful of these and the sleeves were in a lot worse condition than the one I am offering. This is a big money collectible and very desirable particularly in UK Mono format.

The very glossy and deep black vinyl grades EXCELLENT (EX) visibly (maybe EX+ even), but audibly it grades between VERY GOOD (VG) and VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+).  Due to the nature of this LP there are many audio snippets which could be classified as spoken word and in the style of old fashioned 'field recordings', all interspersed with the genius music of Frank Zappa. There are some very quiet passages which have some background noise and a few repetitive ticks. Still though, I (and many others) would consider this a major rarity in this condition. To find a cleaner one could be a life's work and a very expensive outlay. I have had this copy for about 20 years. I can remember finding this gem hidden among a rack of records in a collectors shop in London back in 1992. (I was on my way back from a very cultured day at the British Museum).

In all a great example of this very rare UK Frank Zappa album. The first 'SOLO' recording under his name. The labels are in great condition with the 'SOLD IN UK...' text and KT stamped tax code on Side 1 label.

Get your bids in early folks, to avoid disappointment. I will not be taking any offers or buy it now options on this one. I know a few Zappa collectors and if they are really looking for this LP they will find it here on my auction. Bidders will remain anonymous to others. Please take a look at some of my other rare LP listings.
