Description

FIVE ROYALES
Catch That Teardrop / northern soul 45

The Five Royales were a North Carolina vocal group that was (for a while) frequently confused with the Royales, until they changed their name to The Midnighters.

Between 1953 and '54 they placed five songs into the top ten R&B charts, then went through a bit of a quiet spell until they surfaced again on King Records with a pair of hits in 1957 with "Think," and "Tears Of Joy." After that, it was off to Vee Jay, and Home Of The Blues, before landing at Todd Records in 1963.

This single is from August of 1962 and comes right after their contract with Home Of The Blues had been picked up by ABC Records. This single features the 5 Royales northern soul monster "Catch That Teardrop" and was on Home of the Blues, as well as on ABC like this. Both are nearly impossible to find all these years later. On the flipside you get "Goofball."
