Description
ULTRA RARE AND VERY INTERESTING.
These were all found in the same estate and had similar matrices, and dates on the cardboard holders were 1945 or 1946. Because of this date information, I surmise these had to be stampers for 78 RPMs. I tried to find out what the original records were based on the matrices and other clues, like "Columbia" on one of the cardboard holders. Google AI did say that the beginning of the matrix, "XKG" was associated with Columbia records, but that's as far as I got. One of the cardboard holders and the matrices also had the word, "Valentino", but I couldn't link these at all to Rudolph Valentino and don't know of other Valentinos. Here are details, corresponding to the order of the listing photos.
2 12" tampers were found in a 14" cardboard holder and had the matrix XKG-2029-TS and both also had the word, "VALENTINO". One of the stampers had the matrix backward - would be seen as forward when reflected in a mirror; the other had the matrix forward.
The other 12" stamper was found in a 12" cardboard holder and had the matrix XKG 2030 TS-2. The holder had the date June 13 1946 and the paper paste-on was titled, "Columbia Recording Corporation Stamper Pocket Label. This stamper had a large hole in the middle and the matrix was backward.
2 10" stampers, both having XKG-2028-TS, one gold and one silver. The holder was only used for one of the stampers - it was not wide enough to hold both. The gold stamper had the matrix forward, while the silver stamper had the matrix backward.
MAYBE YOU CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT RECORDS THESE STAMPERS ULTIMATELY BECAME! I couldn't figure it out. But I would imagine they are COLLECTIBLE AS A SET IN ANY CASE!!
