Ok you guys, you know how I love selling all things RARE by BARNES & BARNES? Well, I found some stuff that you're going to love! First off, the one thing I get more requests for to sell these past 10 years: A "FISH HEADS" vinyl 45 TEST PRESSING! Yes, it's true! There may be only a few of these things even in existence! I'm not even sure, 'cuz I only came across this ONE COPY in the VAST B & B archive, but yes, it DOES exist! (See the picture for details of it's existence...)
From around February 1979, this was the very first record the BARNES guys ever put out and it was an exciting time! "FISH HEADS" had been getting lots of radio exposure from Dr. Demento's show to KROQ and elsewhere. It was exploding, baby! So ART & ARTIE decided to test the waters and press up 1000 copies. Well, those copies sold out in like a week, so they made thousands more. The rest is history. BUT: It all had to start with the guys overseeing the record mastering session and then okaying THIS TEST PRESSING! It passed the test, then the 1000 copies were pressed. The song is the most requested song on the Dr. Demento show for the past 30 years! WOW! Don't forget, one of these guys is superstar BILL MUMY of Lost In Space, Twilight Zone, Babylon 5 fame! The other guy is Artie...
Like I said, I have gotten quite a few people emailing me "do you have any "FISH HEADS" 45 test pressings"? And I always say I need to look through the vast archives.... I've put that off for years because it's a daunting task, but I came up with one today, finally! And it's yours for the buying. I'll start it off at 99 big old hairy cents. Oh, I forgot to add that it was SIGNED years ago on the paper cover by ART & ARTIE themselves, under their REAL names! ARTIE never signs his real name anymore he tells me, but he did back then on occasion. It's an Alco Records test press. That was the manufacturer back then for the boys. But it was released on the Barnes' own Lumania Records label. BB 101 and 102. Flip side is "High School Gym". Looks like it's been played a few times 'cuz it had to be okayed, but it looks flat and still playable. This may be the ONLY copy of this thing, 'cuz I did NOT see another one! Let the bidding frenzy begin!
