Description
Here's a beautiful copy of the very first single by r.e.m. on Hib-Tone Records (independent label out of Atlanta, GA) from 1981. Featuring their first alternative college radio hit, "Radio Free Europe" b/w "Sitting Still" (both songs produced by the father of the Athens-Rock sound, Mitch Easter)
I purchased this single during an r.e.m. show in a little college bar/dive outside the gates of L.S.U. during their first tour. Any serious r.e.m. fan knows how limited and rare these singles were even back then!
I've played it perhaps twenty times, including the test-play last night. Both sides are without skips, scratches, warps or wear (which is unusual for this particular single - many of the tiny handful pressed were warped).
Using the Goldmine Record Price Guide standard, I rate the vinyl record as NM (I'm tempted to grade it as Mint). The sleeve is VG because of the record's outside circumference-imprint from years in the box - sleeved in a protective plastic slip cover. While the sleeve has no tape, tears or writing, the top edge is curled back just a bit from upright storage over the last twenty-six years.
There was a small staple through the backside only (no effect on front), but it's been removed. It left a less-than-1/2" tear (not a hole) to the right of Bill's forehead, but it may not be noticeable in my scan.
