Includes double-sided insert with lyrics, photos and credits. The inserts varied in that different photos were used on them. There are at least five different inserts using at least nine different photos, including one photo collage. For the most part a specific photo used on one side has a consistent alternate photo paired with it, but in some cases two inserts share the same photo on one side and have different photos on the reverse. Text remains the same between insert variants.

PERSONAL NOTE: I WAS PLAYING IN A LOCAL BAND IN THE EARLY 1980's IN SEATTLE (THE ADULTS/COLORPLATES) SAW THE FASTBACKS A NUMBER OF TIMES, ALSO IN A BAND IN 1984, LIQUID GENERATION AND OUR FIRST EVER GIG WAS OPENING FOR THE FASTBACKS (SEE GIG FLYER, IT IS NOT A PART OF THIS LOT, BUT WOULD BE HAPPY TO PM TO THE WINNER/BUYER, ON REQUEST. I ALSO TOOK SOME PICS OF THE BAND THAT KURT USED ON THE “ZUCKER” LP REISSUE.

THE FASTBACKS (SEATTLES LEGENDARY PUNK BAND) BIO-

American punk rock band from Seattle, Washington. Formed in 1979 by songwriter/guitarist Kurt Bloch, guitarist/vocalist Lulu Gargiulo, and bassist/vocalist Kim Warnick, the core trio were supported by an estimated 10-12 different drummers, including Duff McKagan, Mike Musburger, and Richard Stuverud, until their 2001 breakup. The band reunited for a one-off live performance on July 8, 2011, at the West Seattle Summer Music Festival, and again in September 2018 for a benefit concert in aid of fellow Seattle musician Andrew McKeag. Following a series of archival releases, the Fastbacks released the new single "A Quiet Night" in February 2023, which was followed by a new studio album in September 2024.

The Fastbacks were a Seattle punk rock band. Formed in 1979 by songwriter/guitarist Kurt Bloch (born August 28, 1960), and friends Lulu Gargiulo (guitar and vocals, born October 12, 1960) and Kim Warnick (bass and vocals, born April 7, 1959), they disbanded in 2001. Their sound mixed a generally punk rock approach to vocals and sound textures with poppy tunes and strong musicianship.

Although these three band members remained fairly constant, they went through numerous drummers, including Duff McKagan, later of Guns N' Roses. MTV's web page on the Fastbacks says that estimates at the number of Fastbacks drummers "range from 12 to 20." For most of the band's last decade, Mike Musberger filled this role, but other Fastbacks drummers before him (or when he took occasional breaks) included Bloch himself, Richard Stuverud (perhaps best known from War Babies, Fifth Angel and now, Three Fish, side project of Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament), Nate Johnson and Rusty Willoughby (both of whom also played in both Flop and Pure Joy), John Moen (of the Dharma Bums, later of Steven Malkmus's Jicks and The Decemberists), Jason Finn (of the Presidents of the United States of America), Dan Peters of Mudhoney, and Tad Hutchison of the Young Fresh Fellows. Several of these people also served at times as drummers in The Squirrels, a similarly long-lived band, and the Fastbacks' sometime label-mates on Pop Llama Records, who bring a similar mix of strong musicianship and punk attitude to even poppier material.

Contributing to the band's breakup was Kim Warnick's move to the band Visqueen in 2001 through 2004. In summer 2010 Kim Warnick started a new band with Mikey Davis called Calligraphers[citation needed].

Author’s 2023 note: The Fastbacks are probably the single most-beloved Seattle band of the modern era, but they sadly never found the kind of success of many of their peers. But if you talk to any of the superstars in Seattle music, from Eddie Vedder to Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses (who was their drummer early on), the city’s love of the Fastbacks will most certainly come up. Just last month I saw a show at Seattle’s Easy Street Records with Kurt Bloch’s new band “Bad Scene” where both Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament and Duff got up onstage. I wrote several features on the Fastbacks over the years at The Rocket, and the first one from the early eighties was headlined “Too Loud, Too Fast,” probably an as good an epitaph as you could do if the band ever decides to end their decades long run. But this piece republished below, which was the cover story of The Rocket in August 1996, is often cited as the most complete Fastbacks story. So here it is again. —Charles R. Cross

We’ll have to head back to the ‘80s for this pick. The Fastbacks is a band I only got into quite recently. Our story starts in Seattle, Washington. Way before Nirvana. It was rock ‘n’ roll royalty; the kings of Queens, the Ramones and England’s true Queen, Queen, that inspired Kurt Bloch and Kim Warnick, who had been playing guitar since high school, and Lulu Gargiulu, who had played classical guitar since childhood, but not rock music. The latter being a fan of ‘60s music along with Warnick and Warnick and Bloch bonding on ‘70s rock. Bloch took on the job as drummer, Gargilulu the guitar, and Warnick the bass. Shannon Wood joined the band as a singer only to quit the same year the band was started, in 1979. Warnick then became the lead singer and Bloch the guitarist. The band has had several drummers, including GnR guitarist Duff McKagen. Their first single was “It’s Your Birthday” b/w “You Can’t Be Happy” in 1981. They put out their first album as late as 1987. The second album was Very, Very Powerful Motor in 1990. They signed to SubPop with a compilation in 1992 and the album Zücker in 1993. Followed it up in 1994, with Answer the Phone, Dummy, a title I, as a telephobe, find offensive! In the late ‘90s, they gave us New Mansions in Sound (1996) and The Day didn’t Exist (1999). In 2001, the band broke up and Warnick started Visqueen, and later Cali Giraffes. Bloch has also had a career in music production, producing Presidents of the United States of America and Sicko. He also played in bands like the Beltholes, Yes Masters and Filthy Friends (with among others Peter Buck and Corin Tucker). The Beltholes, being a prog band doesn’t seem too appealing to me, but I’ll give them thumbs up for their album name For Whom the Beltholes.
