Description

Here we have a very rare copy of the soundtrack to the classic 60's surf movie, The Fantastic Plastic Machine. Composed and conducted by Harry Betts, this is a US copy on the Epic label (#BN 26469).

Cover: Ex- (signiature on front, slight corner bumps, cancellation punch hole, very minor shelfwear, a couple of hairline creases. A great, clean cover!).

Vinyl: Ex (Bright, glossy, few barely noticable sleeve marks that don't affect sound at all. Sounds superb on my turnable!)

Labels: Ex+ (look like new, no marks whatsoever).

Like many 60's soundtracks, it's hard to define which genre the music is. It's all instrumental, and i guess it's a subtle blend of funk, soul, and jazz, and soft rock. Its signed on the cover by Jay North, who i believed narrated the film.

The movie was made in the late 60's, with the hope of being a big budget box office hit. During the Australian leg of filming, the visiting American crew and surfers witnessed the new "shortboard" surfing by Nat Young, Bob McTavish etc, and the initial concept for the movie was scrapped. The new focus was the Aussies and the their new style of surfing....the lack of direction and loose storyline probably contributed to the film being a flop at the time. The subsequent book and soundtrack lp were also quickly forgotten, and its only in recent years that collectors have realised the significance of the film (one of the first to document the shortboard revolution) and the rarity of the soundtrack and book.  Both have now become very sought after collector's item, so grab this lp while you can!

Paypal preferred payment method. Can be picked up from Mt Martha, Vic, or will send Australia wide in a cardboard record mailer and AusPost padded bag for $9.50. Thanks for looking, good luck!
