Another from my personal collection. Originally purchased from new in 1969! Initially I only ever played this to record to tape and then just stored in a case with the vinyl removed from the cover and sleeve, this is how I have always stored my records!   A rare 1969 1st UK pressing of Family's album release 48 years old, rare, in that this is complete with the original large and full sized poster, and is probably the best looking and sounding copy of this album that I have ever seen! (Rarely Seen like this) Note: The early Reprise vinyls I have found to be one of the most difficult pressings to get great audio quality on. Many are fraugt with and notorious for pressing defects in my opinion and my experience, but this copy is truly exceptional. I can't emphasise enough, that the audio separation and clarity is fantastic and with a real deep bass feel can not be found like this on any other format in my opinion.  This is the earliest possible 1st UK pressing with the original 'Flip Back, Laminated front only cover a reral beauty and over 48 years old like this!' and the 1st issue Reprise Large Steamboat labels are featured on the vinyl! One of the best looking and sounding copies that I have ever seen! Truly vibrant clear audio (louder cut) than later pressings! Very rare to find like this and complete!

Family Entertainment was the second album from the British progressive rock band Family, released in February 1969.

The cover of the album was a clear takeoff from the sleeve of the Doors' second album, Strange Days, as Family frankly admitted!

Family Entertainment was the last album from the group's original lineup!!.

"The Weaver's Answer"
"Observations From a Hill"
"Hung Up Down"
"Summer '67" (instrumental) (Whitney)
"How-Hi-the-Li" (Grech)
"Second Generation Woman" (Grech)
"From Past Archives"
"Dim"
"Processions" (Whitney)
"Face In the Cloud" (Grech) "Emotions"

All selections are by Roger Chapman and Charlie Whitney except where noted!.

After the critical success of their 1968 debut, Music in a Doll's House, many aficionados of British progressive rock wondered how Family could avoid repeating themselves and still sound fresh. Family, however, were hardly a static psychedelic band, as Music In a Doll's House might have suggested: their sound was largely influenced by folk, country, and pop, all solidly rooted in the blues. The group, under the production of Glyn Johns and Family manager John Gilbert, would create a worthy second album that drew on all of their musical influences and abilities!!.

The album opened with "The Weaver's Answer", a haunting, stately song about a dying old man about to see his life in the form of tapestry. Lead singer Roger Chapman sings the lyric of remembrance with a great deal of grit and a heavy blues undercurrent throughout; the final violin passage from Ric Grech perfectly symbolizes the old man's moment of death. On much of the rest of the album, Family blends seemingly contrasting styles within single songs; the anti-war rant "Hung Up Down" blends a madrigal melody with a guttural blues-rock bass line, while "From Past Archives" cuts suddenly from a lilting ballad melody to a hip jazz arrangement!

Charlie Whitney was enjoying the thrill of discovering new worlds on Family Entertainment with his dreamlike song "Processions," about a little boy fantasising about his life ahead while enjoying a day at the seashore, while "Observations From a Hill" - sung by Jim King - finds magic and beauty in the most mundane scenery of Family's hometown, Leicester!!.

Ric Grech stood out especially on Family Entertainment, his fast rocker "Second Generation Woman" being the exciting opener of side two.

His other two songs grabbed attention as well. "How-Hi-The-Li" acerbically thumbed a nose at authority figures, while "Face In the Cloud" conjured up beautiful dreams of an ideal world. (Tellingly, all of Grech's songs contained explicit drug references, and drug abuse would eventually lead to his premature death at 43 in 1990). The album closed with "Emotions," an immaculately produced choral number in the manner of the Rolling Stones's "Salt Of the Earth."

Family's momentum was almost derailed by the departure of Grech for Blind Faith two months after Family Entertainment's UK release, which caused their first U.S. tour to founder, and Jim King only worsened the situation with his departure later in 1969. But the album gave their music a new direction, and remains an indisputable classic. "The Weaver's Answer" would go on to become their signature song!!.

The Vinyl
On visual inspection this vinyl looks absolutely superbe , almost like new in my opinion! The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable! This is the original heavier thicker type of vinyl with deeper grooves only found on these original earliest pressings! They are also more robust than later pressings which were more flimsier! Initial inspection I can barely see a blemish at all on the playing surface! Wow! This vinyl almost looks like a new vinyl after 48 years in my opinion!  Only in strong light only could possibly any very few light whispy surface marks be seen but to be honest I can't see any, at least no audio sounding marks or scratches that I heard! Extremely rare to ever find like this after 48 years!

The Audio Quality
I have played this through track for track as usual on a top system at very loud volume! The audio is truly stunning throughout! One of the best sounding copies that I have ever heard! Very, very clear and vibrant throughout, without distortion at all! This plays with (no) signs of any distortion or that this has been overplayed WHAT SO EVER!!(No loud constant clicks or pops, and no skips or jumps!) In fact this has been stored in a case laying dormant for over 47 years. You will find it very hard to get a better sounding copy in my opinion. The best looking and sounding vinyl of this album that I have ever heard! Audio graded at Very Near as Mint in my opinion!

Please note, I always add this disclamer!
Please allow for the odd light static /tick perhapes heard during the odd quiet place or in between tracks but nothing consistant throughout the audio! Please remember that this is a genuine 48 year old vinyl (not a reissue) that would have originally been played on a 48 year old system!!!! I would class myself as highly critacle! Please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! Audio is graded at the top! You will find the audio quality on this vinyl very hard to surpass! Audio graded at least Near as Mint in my opinion!

Please note! This has been stored in a case for at least 47 years! Any static crackle that might be heard during some quiet parts could be minimised by constant cleaning before each play in my experiance!  A build up of dust and dirt that has accumilated over the years from the vinyl being stored laying dormant causes most of this problem so please allow for some light static  I would class myself as highly critical ! Please look at my completed listings of records that I have sold of this calaber and you will see that I normally get it right!

The Labels
These feature the 1st issue Reprise 'Large Steamboat labels (only 1st press) in absolutely superbe condition! Amazingly I find it hard to see any real nasty spidering even when a angled to the light, perhapes very , very feint tiny spider trails but you have to look very hard to notice any.  There is little if no spindleware the hole is perfectly round!

The Record Sleeve
This is a plain white poly lined sleeve patented. No splits or tears light fading/browning with age only. This is the original!

The Cover
This is the original Laminated front , Flipback cover (only 1st press) Super glossy in apearance! Being primarily black in color these are so hard to keep in good condition like this one. There are (no) splits or tares at all! There is very minimal light thumb creasings in the laminate only, in fact just two that you would have to look for to really notice in my opinion! Any other marks/scuff/crease lines at the edges, again you have to look for to noticde in my opinion.  Very rare to find like this after 48 years! The rear and flipbacks are in superbe condition. This cover is normaly seen with nasty ringware/rubbing at the rear but this is superbe! This cover must grade at least better than excellent to excellent plus in my opinion!

The Original poster
Very rarely seen complete with the original poster! 1st issue super large poster! Light creasings/wear with age only.  This is original and has never been put on the wall! (see photos!

An Audio Archive Copy! 48 Years Old Like This! Final Upgrade!
