THIS IS A REALLY SUPERB COPY (ONE OF THE BEST I'VE SEEN) WHICH DELIVERS SENSATIONALLY CLEAN AND FRESH SOUND AND PLAYS PRETTY MUCH PERFECTLY ON MY SYSTEM - AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME! (see detailed audio assessment below)

Side One: Fairfield Halls, Croydon
Roger Chapman - vocals and percussion
Charlie Whitney - electric and acoustic guitars, bass on track 2
John Weider - acoustic guitar, bass on tracks 1 and 4, violin on tracks 2 and 4
Poli Palmer - percussion, keyboards, and vibes
Rob Townsend - drums and percussion

Side Two: Olympic Studios
Roger Chapman - vocals and percussion
Charlie Whitney - guitars, bass on track 2
John Weider - bass and violin
Poli Palmer - piano, vibes, drums and percussion
Rob Townsend - drums and percussion

Side One of Family's Anyway was recorded live at Croydon's Fairfield Hall, and while the sound throughout is messy, overly loud, and remarkably bottom-heavy, there is an energy, excitement and sheer thunder to the atmospheric capture that would change Family from this point on. Aside from the piano, violin, and drum barrages, Roger Chapman's vocals are simply electrifying, even with a voice that sounds slightly stretched and flattened.
It was these four cuts that transformed Family's sound into something that audiences other than their cult following could adhere to.
The eight minutes of "Good News -- Bad News" and the sharply written "Holding the Compass" are testimony to what the band was transforming into. And, while the studio tracks weren't as boisterous, they were indeed rough, especially the title track and the modernised feel of "Part of the Load," sounding slightly ahead of its time. Poli Palmer's percussion work is both resounding and highly inventive, as is his flute playing, taking drumming duties away from Jim King.

Track Listing:
Side 1: Good News - Bad News (7:22) / Willow Trees (4:20)/ Holding The Compass (3:40) / Strange Band (3:11)
Side 2: Part Of The Load (4:38) / Anyway (3:40) / Normans (4:28) / Lives And Ladies (6:29)

LABELS: Clean, bright and unmarked with little sign of use - a couple of light spindles only - this copy has clearly seen little play
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen, are unmarked and appear as-new - beautiful record
VINYL Audio: Superb audio - crystal clear, warm, rich and vibrant sound with the live side (very roughly recorded) giving a raw and incredibly atmospheric account of the excitement and energy of a band at the peak of its powers. On playback at a very loud volume it sounds really sensational and there are no scratches, no clicks or pops, no groove-wear or distortion and apart from some very minor surface noise for the first couple of seconds (only) on Side One - from the run-in but before the music proper starts - it plays MINT with absolutely nothing else to fault playback - fantastic copy - critically graded NEAR MINT due to aforementioned (but extremely minor) interference
SLEEVE: The original packaging is also in stunning condition and apart from one light and extremely minor 'bump' to the central top edge of the gatefold card (please see close-up photo) it's in MINT condition with no wear or damage to the plastic wallet (the part of this cover which is commonly found split or creased) - superb example and rare to find so pristine
