Description
Extremely RARE: Pet Shop Boys Copper Plated DMM (Master Recording Disc)
DMM = Direct Metal Master
Apparently DMM's are a first step in the process of stamping recorded vinyl discs. There is some information available online about DMM's but I welcome input from anyone having more info--
From Wikipedia:
Unlike conventional disc mastering, where the mechanical audio modulation is cut onto a lacquer-coated aluminum disc, DMM cuts straight into metal (copper), utilizing a high frequency carrier system and specialized diamond styli, vibrating at more than 40 kHz (i.e. 60 kHz) [1] to facilitate the cutting.
As you can see in the photos, the metal disc is recorded and copper-plated on one side. It is in very good condition, but also shows any fingerprints very easily due to the sensitivity of the copper. Other than the copper discoloration, there are no visible scratches or defects. I have photographed the disc to emphasize the fingerprints, which are on opposite sides of the disc as would occur in handling a disc with both hands. Very heavy weight relative to size.
Not sure if it can be played on regular audio equipment without damage to the disc or your equipment, so I'm offering this as a collectible for display only.
