ELVIS PRESLEY – “ROUSTABOUT” (LPM-2999) – SCARCE “SILVER TOP” HOLLYWOOD PRESSING FROM 1964!
RECORD: VG+ as play-graded. This very scarce Hollywood pressing was deserving of play from start to finish to accurately determine its grade. The sound was great with strong vocals and instrumentation. Very little surface noise was detected, mainly in the name of sporadic “ticks” that do not deter from the listening enjoyment. Hollywood was the exclusive pressing plant for “Silver Top” copies of this album, both MONO and STEREO. Only the earliest of pressings received these “Silver Top” labels in October, 1964. Shortly thereafter, all pressing plants had switched to the new “White Top” labels. This particular record does show several surface scuffs and scratches but none can be felt with the fingertip. The “Silver Top” labels are simply beautiful, with just a few very light spindle marks noticed. This Original Soundtrack recording is one of Elvis’ best, although no singles emerged from it. However, DJ White Label Promotional copies of “ONE TRACK HEART / ROUSTABOUT” were distributed to radio stations across the country. The matrix numbers end with 3S/12S. Here’s an opportunity to own the “last of the Silver Tops”.
COVER: VG+ with an approximate 3-inch lower central seam break. The spine is fully legible, although there is some cracking of the slick in that area. There are no typical seam splits that run back from the open end. There is no tape, writing or staple holes either. Ring wear is minimal, as is corner wear. A bit of a bend is seen close to the lower right corner area. This is a very clean and highly presentable cover that will fit nicely in any collection of Elvis Presley records and/or memorabilia.
