Description

The Elka Rhapsody was manufactured from 1975-1980 and was a popular string machine that offers 2 different sounds : Violin-Cello & Strings,that can be played independently or mixed. It was used by many artists throughout the 1970's into the early 1980's.

This a collectors gem from 1975. All it does is the classic 70s string sounds AND its VERY polyphonic, meaning you can hold down ALOT of notes across the keyboard! It was Used on many, many albums back in the 70s including:

"Fools Overture" by Supertramp from the album "Even in the quietest moments",
If you listen to the song note that the Elka 490 comes in very subtly around the 2:35 mark, is really prominent starting at 3:25 mark doing repetative chord stabs up until well past the 5:00 minute mark.
Another famous (or not-so-famous) example is Klaus Schulze's "Bayreuth Return" track from the "Timewind" record recorded on the 3rd June 1975.
Still Another example would be the 1975 Album from which the song "Eighteen" (with a Bullet) by Pete Wingfield came and if I remember correctly was most probably used on various albums by groups/artists as diverse as Kansas, America, Al Stewart, Ambrosia, Edgar Winter Group, Tomita, Vangelis,Tangerine Dream etc...  
There are 2 dedicated faders on the front panel for volume and sustain. There is also on the rear back panel besides the output jack, a jack for a sustain pedal as well as a tuning knob for the keyboard.

This Rhapsody 490 is fully functional and in good overall condition. As mentioned only the LED for the  On/Off switch is Not functioning so I have marked it as On/Off to facilitate knowing when it's On or Off. However, Apart from this due to the Age of the keyboard (1974!) some of the components could possibly go at any time so, I must sell under the condition AS IS.
