Description

Rare out of print and sought after lp,recorded and edited by the late great historian/musician Mike Seeger, here is Vol 2 of Elizabeth Cottons studio offering for Folkways Records . Vol 1 was recorded in 1965, this first pressing of volume 2 is from 1967 . On thick, deep groove vinyl, it showcases the wide range of her repertoire played at the height of her powers just after her discovery by the Seegers for whom she was employed as a house keeper in the early 1960's. There are traditional tunes, original arrangements and spirituals all made cozy by her charming narritives and gentle virtuoso guitar and banjo playing in her inimitable bare fingered ragtime style. She played lefty with a righty strung Martin D -18 guitar! Yep, everything was backwards though everything you hear on this rare , long out of print lp is full on straight ahead American roots music at its best. This small quiet woman who passed in 1985 became a grammy winner and a huge influence on a generation of folk and blues players, I among them. Played only a couple times, from my own collection, the lp, jacket and inner sleeve are in perfect original condition. A great addition for the serious collector, musician or guitarists library, International buyers welcome, pay any duties in their own country.
