E.S.G. – Emerald, Sapphire & Gold – were (indeed, still are) a group of sisters out of the South Bronx who played funk like it was punk rock. Let's call it post-punk-funk!
This, their three-track debut offering, was recorded in New York City and mixed overseas in Manchester by legendary producer Martin Hannett (Joy Division, New Order, Magazine, Durutti Column). Besides the A-side You're No Good (which plays at 45rpm) the other two tracks are U.F.O. and Moody (both play at 33rpm).
This single was released in April 1981 via the legendary Factory Records label. It's a cult classic if there ever was one!
Oh yeah, the band also had the honour of playing the opening night at Manchester's scene-setting club The Hacienda in May 1982.
