Another from my personal collection! An awesome original classic from Emerson, Lake & Palmer! Often seen later pressings with much flimsier type of vinyl! This on offer is the original UK issue release! Absolutely top mint audio throughout! Purchased in 1973 from new in London , and initially played and then stored in a case for the best part of 30 years with the vinyl seperated from the cover! This is how I have always stored my vinyls!
Please note, The original issues to be released in the UK were US pressed and were also released in the UK for sale because I also purchased one of these at the time, it featured the US catalogue numbers on the run offs,, but  this is the UK pressing, note cat no K53501 with UK stampers and catalogue number only.  Important points to note!   The UK catalogue number K53501 ! these are printed on the cover spines and labels on this variation (only UK issues Not to be confused by the US pressings also on the Manicore labels which carry the catalogue number MC 66669 on the cover spine, also some ere pressed from US masters! Manticore Records was the record label launched by Emerson, Lake and Palmer's production company Manticore in the early 1970s. The manticore is featured in the artwork for the album Tarkus! The original pressings were distributed by Atlantic Recording Corp in the US which is why the labels feature the cat no. MC 66669 ! The 1st pressing was released on November 19, 1973 in both the US and the UK at the same time! Issues were printed featuring the correct UK catalog number which is this one on offer. This would be the second issued label variation issued in the UK  but pressed from the original UK masters. As always my preference is for the UK pressings and I think these sound more vibrant but this is my opinion. Rarely seen or found in this top condition. Listen for your self in the player below!

Brain Salad Surgery is the fourth studio album by progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer, released in 1973 and the first under their Manticore Records imprint. It features cover art by controversial artist H. R. Giger. According to the 1996 re-release notes, Manticore Records president Mario Medious "nicked the title from a slang lyric in Dr. John's 1973 hit, "Right Place, Wrong Time" (released January 26, 1973)": Just need a little brain salad surgery/Got to cure this insecurity to replace the working title, Whip Some Skull on Yer!

The most well-known track is "Karn Evil 9 - 1st Impression, Part 2" (Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends...). "Karn Evil 9" was so long it originally had to be split between sides 1 and 2 of the album. The original U.S.CD release also divided the piece, but subsequent releases have presented it in an uninterrupted version!

The lyrics were co-written by Greg Lake with fellow ex-King Crimson member Peter Sinfield. On the instrumental "Toccata", based on Alberto Ginastera's 1st piano Concerto, special synthesized effects were produced not only by Keith Emerson but by Carl Palmer using newly-developed drum synthesizers. Ginastera's agent apparently did not care for ELP's rendition and wasn't going to clear the publishing rights; however, Ginastera himself liked it a lot and arranged for clearance. "Toccata" also gained fame as the theme to the New England cult TV show Creature Double Feature!

The band had initially wanted to release "Jerusalem" as a single, but discontent from the BBC prevented these plans from materializing!

"Karn Evil 9" includes vocal credit for Keith Emerson, and is Emerson's only official vocal credit on an ELP record!

Tracks

"Jerusalem" (William Blake, Hubert Parry as adapted by Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, Carl Palmer) – 2:44
"Toccata" Adaptation of Ginastera's 1st piano Concerto, 4th movement (Alberto Ginastera, arr. Emerson) – 7:22
"Still...You Turn Me On" (Lake)– 2:53

"Karn Evil 9" (Emerson, Lake, Sinfield) – 29:54

The Vinyl!

Initial inspection shows this vinyl looks like new! It looks like it has never been played at all in my opinion! (no) needle scratches! or indeed any audio sounding marks can be seen! Any visual marks that could possibly be seen under a strong light would only be sleeve removal marks only! I have played this through track for track prior to listing as usual. Please note! This has not been played for at least 30 years and has been stored all of this time! The audio is cristal clear and very (very) vibrant through out! with (no) signs of any grooveware or that this has been overplayed at all! It is awesome!! Points to note! It is all too easy to be critical about these pressings and the nature of this pressing with very quiet parts revealed very light static crackle! Most of which reveals dirt or dust on the playing surface after play! ,,, which has been built up over the years of being stored and laying dormant! From my experiance constant cleanining before each play resolves this problem! I must emphisise this audio is awesome cristal clear and vibrant with (no) clicks ,pops and certainly (no) jumps or skips! Infact this has hardly ever been played in 31 years!

The Audio
As soon as the needle hits the playing surface it is obvious that this has rarely ever been played, in fact I don't even remember ever playing this lp because I already had purchased a copy that was played to record to tape. This audio is like new in my opinion absolutely stunning crystal clear and very vibrant through out. No distortion in fact I never heard any problems at all No clicks or pops. I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to near mint throughout! Don't take my word for it listen to the complete album recorded in the player above!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion as usual when describing the audio quality of this vinyl as I hear it! I have played this on a top system at very loud volume! Please allow for the odd static ticks\crackle (not consistant throughout the audio) remember this is a genuine 31 years old vinyl (not a reissue) that would have originally been played on a 31 year old system!

The Labels

These are the original Manticore labels feature the UK catalog number K53501. These are as new No visable spidering that I can see at all. This looks totally unplayed in my opinion.

The record Sleeve.

This is a plain white paper sleeve no splits or tears patented.

The cover

This is the original thicker card type cover double opening die cut Garrod & Lofthouse cover! (only 1st UK press) This is in awesome condition for 34 years old!(no) splits or tares and amaizingly (no) real creases at all unbeleivable! Any marks creases or indents you really have to look for to notice in my opinion. There is a very small mark at the rear top left hand corner can be seen in the photos barely noticed unless looked for in my opinion. Any rubbing or ring wear you have to look to notice also. Please note only the UK issues carry the catalogue number K53501 On the spine! Must be graded at least excellent plus to very very near mint in my opinion!

The insert!

This has only ever been taken out for the photos in 34 years and is in the condition that I purchased it in from new!!And is as new condition! and makes this album complete!
