ELVIS PRESLEY

ROCK N ROLL NO 2
HMV CLP 1105   As you know, the rarest of El's UK LP releases;  Mint copies are like platinum plated gold dust. Most are far from mint though, and this one is no exception.   The cover is complete, but has some tears, creases and laminate lift. The principal damage is a two inch tear bottom right that can be seen in the photo. There are also a couple of much smaller tears along the opening edge. The spine is creased in several places and has a 1 inch split in the middle. The cover was a very shoddy production for its date, and I suspect that this reflects the EMI management's attitude to Elvis and rock n roll generally - they thought it would all be over in a couple of years and the records consigned to the bin, so they weren't made to last. I certainly have many 50's HMV albums where the cover is much more robust and has remained in excellent condition, but I've not seen a copy of this in recent years without some degree of wear and damage.   The record has also seen better days, with quite a lot of surface marks and scuffs, resulting in some noise and crackle, although it does play all the way through on my deck, so as a result I would probably say it was G minus rather than a lower condition.   It's a little known fact that there was a pressing fault on the original run of this album, which caused the stylus to jump badly on (If I remember correctly) Ready Teddy. This one doesn't, but I recall taking no less than three copies back to the shop in 1957 before I got one that played perfectly. With hindsight of course I wish I'd kept them all! However 32 and six was an enormous investment then - more than a month's pocket money.   An extremely rare album-  I've seen copies in a lot worse condition on ebay.     POST AND PACKING 12" ALBUMS

GRADING AND RETURNS POLICY

I try to grade all records very strictly using Record Collector grades varied by PLUS or MINUS and with the use of Near Mint for a record that has been played but has no faults (no record that has been played is mint). If you are not satisfied that your record is as described in my listing you can return it to me within 7 days for a no-quibble refund of the purchase price.

I will continue to list more records like this from my own collection in the coming months so why not add me to your favourites list?
