MacLizardking Presents…

“A Collectable LP – intro…”

Greetings! Cheers for opening my e-bay listing and welcome to how record sales on e-bay (IMHO!) should be done – both pre and post sale. The mound of detail within this listing is intended to inform and assist you in deciding, a.) if this is the copy of the record you’ve been searching for and b.) if I’m the person you wish to buy it from. Buying vinyl records on e-bay can be a little “hit and miss”, however, you need not worry here. It is my mission to purely deal in high quality items, the rarer the better, served-up as efficiently as possible, encouraging repeat business amongst my splendid and loyal customers… just check all that glowing feedback!

On the ‘bay, detail is the key to success, so, to this end, I play-grade all records I list under the “Collectable LP” banner and present an audio review, along with precise descriptions of all components (vinyl, jacket, inner-sleeve, leaflets, posters, etc) below. Having been "sold a pup" once or twice, I go to great lengths to ensure the total accuracy of the descriptions contained within these reviews, leaning heavily on the critical, pointing out every imperfection, if there are any. But, on the whole, we're discussing different degrees of excellence, as the vast majority of the items I sell are in superb condition - genuinely lovely records – please take it as read that there are no torn or cut-out covers, no gouges or deep scratches here or in any of my listings, unless fully detailed below!

As an additional feature, I’ve added an “Initial MacLizardking Review”, which is basically my immediate thoughts on the cover and vinyl at first sight – as honest a visual appreciation as you’ll get.

All records that are offered for sale under the “Collectable LP” store category are truly exceptional items. In order to keep them this way, the following steps are taken prior to listing; the vinyl is re-housed in a brand new polly-lined inner sleeve and the original retained, unless blank – detailed below. Once examined and graded, the whole thing is then carefully stored in a high quality, pvc outer sleeve.  Multiple shots of the lp (Mostly, 1. angled in pvc sleeve, 2. front sleeve, 3. rear sleeve, 4. whole vinyl on inner, 5. label - a side, and 6. label - b side, though if perfect, there’ll be less photos, as the item’s mint!) are provided below to give you as accurate a-visual as possible.

And that’s just the pre-sale prep!

Post-sale, all items are re-inspected and the vinyl re-housed along with the cover in the pvc sleeve, to ensure the most safe approach to shipping and not allowing the vinyl to cut through the outer sleeve whilst in transport… if that makes sense!

To close, a note on my pricing equations. The “Start Price” is, obviously, the absolute rock-bottom I’ll accept for an item. Achieved as a balance of the “book-price” (if listed by Record Collector – what a fabulous tome! - generally a 1/3 of the listed value to tempt you collectors!) and/or ease of finding said item in this specific condition; particularly prevalent with my Mint items. On occasion, they may not be book-listed, but you’re never going to find one like this again… possibly even a 1st press!

I occasionally place a “Buy It Now” value that I feel is genuinely fair for the item, again a balance of “Book-value” and/or condition and availability. Obviously, there’s the chance no one else will bid, and you’ll snag a total bargain, but, if you’re really after a specific item, you won’t be disappointed by hitting the BIN button. Those without BIN’s, well, I guess the sky’s the limit! I honestly don’t know what they might go for… some fly, some sink!

Happy bidding.

Rod - aka maclizardking.

Introduction and MacLizardking’s Initial Review: Here’s a seriously rare slice of Elvis that I’d been squirreling away but have decided to auction as, as ever, the tax man’s knocking at the door, so it’s time to sell some of the family jewels! The sleeve’s practically as new, bright, shiny, and generally fantastic! The vinyl’s got some light signs of age and playing, but delights both physically and aurally. This is also a more than competitive start price... I don't do them, but I was sooooo tempted to put a reserve than this on this particular disc! Now, please read on…

Detailed Cover & Inner-sleeve Review.

Specific cover grading: M-

Comment: Fully laminated, front & back, first issue version.

Front: A few miniscule stress creases toward spine and the slightest ripple in the sleeve, otherwise, all is bright, clean and tight lamination and no loss of colour what-so-ever.

Back: Basically, as front – incredibly clean! Someone’s written the original price in red biro on the top left corner (26/5 ! I guess that translates as 26 shillings and 5pence, or “d” as it was then, which I think works out to £1.35! Not bad when the book value for this baby ids now well in to three figures!) and that’s it.

Edges & Corners: All in superb shape, unworn and undinked, with just the tips of the corners showing ware.

Spine: There isn’t one.

Inner-sleeve: Original 10” polly-liner, with NO splits.

“Rule of Thumb” guide to gradings;

M : Perfection, as new – the same feel and condition as the day it left the factory.

NM : Pretty much the same, but there’s one tiny imperfection that I’ve found that irritates, detailed above, but doesn’t detract from the whole.

M- : A notch below that, but indicating a cover that’s still in truly fantastic condition, but it‘s just about possible to see it’s been slid in and out of a collection a few times.

EX +/- : Possible creasing or ring-ware, with any and all imperfections will be detailed above, though with no damage beyond light ware. +’s or –‘s indicating the variance within the grade.

VG +/- : A possible nick or tare, but any and all imperfections will be detailed above, +’s or –‘s indicating the variance within the grade.

Detailed Vinyl/s & Labels Review.

Specific Vinyl grading: M-

Comment: A fair grading, given the age and rarity of this item, but one which accurately reflects the balance of physical and aural conditions.

Visual: Looking beyond the truly incredible sheen that’s still present, slightly concerning at first sight as while there’s still superb sheen to this 10”er, there are a few light rub marks, though (as with all my listings) certainly no scratches! (See photos)

Audio: This was an utter joy to listen to! Certainly, the recording does sound a little old, but certainly nothing that disturbs or annoys! There was a light repetitive click ONLY during the quiet final verse of Loving You, and that’s it for the whole album. Okay, we’re not taking about dynamic sound-scapes here, but still a great listen from start to finish… with just the odd VERY light point of disturbance here and there – and that’s GUARENTEED!

Labels: Immaculate black and silver RCA’s.

“Rule of Thumb” guide, achieved as a balance of the physical and the aural qualities

M : Utterly perfect - as new. Immaculate and flawless, both physically and aurally.

NM : Pretty much ditto to the above, but as “Sod’s Law” occasionally dictates, with one miniscule flaw that’ll be detailed above that has no effect on the overall quality of the item, yet means it’s no longer “perfect”.

M- : A beautiful vinyl, that it might be possible to spot that it’s been played before. Possibly the lightest of paper-marks on the physical, but still practical perfection on the aural – as ever, full details above.

EX : Well within the realms of a fantastic listen. Paper or surface “skating” marks are possible on older items, careful comment will be made on any aural disturbance, with +’s or –‘s indicating the variance within the grade.

VG :  Not dealing in items that are damaged, this would be a very rare vinyl grading. Indeed, it would have to be either an exceptional, rare and ludicrously collectable item (a Hendrix on Track or Zep on Plum etc) or something delightfully quirky!  As ever, +’s or –‘s indicating the variance within the grade.

For further slices of quality vinyl dating from the late 50’s through to the current day, please visit “MacLizardking Music” located at http://stores.ebay.co.uk/maclizardkingmusic  where the policies of high quality and honest-service are paramount. Either duplicates from my personal collection or items that just aren’t really my bag that I’ve picked up along the way. I try to get at least two or three new listings up-loaded each day, so there’ll always be a rotation of goods, of varied decades and styles.

After the dust has settled….

Expect some cheery e-mails!

As soon as the auction has finished, or on a Monday for items finishing at the weekend, I’ll e-mail an “invoice” with all p&p info as detailed below, including registration & insurance details. Should you wish to combine and bid on further items, just let me know, and I’ll re-invoice when you’ve finished.

As the sale progresses, I keep my buyers updated at every twist and turn, so, after, 1. the initial invoice, please expect further notifications when, 2. payment is received and, 3. the item is dispatched.

Informed customers are happy customers!

Postage & Packaging Charges and Payment Method Preferences:

Please read carefully, this is from the heart folks!

Having been on the receiving end of some truly abysmal packaging, all items from my organisation are dispatched in top quality, cruciform record mailers, with additional gaffer-tape protection on the edges and some pretty leery "Fragile" tape to alert the sleepiest of Postie. All charges listed below are inclusive of postage & (most importantly) packaging costs, using bought-in, made for the job mailers, not home-made, cut-up boxes or those awful envelope mailers that result in killed corners on lp’s!  Yes, I do charge slightly more than some for P&P, but you receive significantly more - including a record in the same state as when it was dispatched! To verify all this manic attention to detail, please do take a gander at the feedback my buyers are both cool and kind enough to leave.

P&P Prices:

Solo LP: UK = £3.00, Europe = £5.00, Rest of World = £7.00

For additional LP’s, double disc sets or triple disc sets, please add the following cost per disc.

UK + £1:00, Europe + £2:00, Rest of World + £3.00

COMPULSORY Registration and Insurance of Packages:

I am truly sorry to report that a sudden spate of charge-back attempts after three months, even after reception of positive feedback (NOT a point of legal consideration, I have discovered – sellers beware) from some low-life, corrupt w*nkers, means that ALL packages with a content value of over £20:00 must now be registered for customers paying via PayPal. There are a few regulars – you know who you are! – who have proved themselves fine and honourable people, but I’m afraid my trust has been badly misplaced on a few occasions recently, so have no option but to cover myself and insist on proof of delivery.

All invoices will offer the option of registration, with the following additional fees applying, but offer both a tracking number and up to £30.00 compensation should something go awry. These fees, on packages valued less than £20, are optional, but are offered on all sales invoices as standard. Please bear in mind, it is your choice as to whether or not to take up this additional cover – including damage whilst in transport, something for which I can not be held accountable. Having said that, our world postal services have not lost one (permanently) yet. Pretty good really, for something we all occasionally complain about; and I’ve sent lp’s to, pretty much, all corners of our beautiful planet!

UK = £1.00 per package. Europe & Rest of The World = £3.50 per package.

Once dispatched, all items are the responsibility of the Buyer, including damage by our postal services, though (if the item was registered) I will obviously assist in the tracking of any item that goes missing or is damaged with provision of the tracking/insurance number if taken up by you, the Buyer.

Please note, these are the charges - they are non-negotiable; particularly post-auction! If you think they’re unreasonable, please, do not bid. I know what my costs and overheads are and, with all due respect to first time MacLizardking customers who have yet to enjoy the experience (read that feedback folks!), you do not!

Payment Methods:

PayPal is the primo method of choice for either UK or overseas buyers. Within the UK and as long as you can handle the wait, personal cheques or postal orders are also acceptable. For overseas buyers, I’m afraid personal cheques are no longer acceptable and cash ONLY if it is registered; cash is too regularly stolen and I’m fed up with being called a thief! Also, I can’t cash the cheques, so it’s PayPal, IMO or REGISTERED cash, well concealed, only.

NOTE: Non-payers, hagglers or general time-wasting losers, will be left truly stinging feedback and barred from all future auctions - I do try to keep this all friendly and light, but I’m discovering there are some real dick-heads out there amongst the rest of you fabulous, genuine punters!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Should things go “boink”…

The standard rules apply to refunds – i.e. if you’re not happy with the condition of the item in comparison with the description, neither am I. So, on receipt of the goods in the same condition as when they were dispatched, a full refund will be made of your original payment.

NOTE: Refunds ONLY via PayPal or, if not already cashed, return of cheque.

These listings do take time to compile, but are well worth it, as I’m obviously aware of the condition when dispatched and you, the buyer, can be assured of the accuracy of the description of the item in which you’re interested.

And finally…

Whilst this may all appear slightly excessive on the detail front, I do go to great lengths to ensure the accuracy of these listings and promote “service” and “honesty” as treasured commodities as, on occasion, I have found them to be lacking in (one or two) others with which I have dealt on e-bay - But NOT here! I feel I should also add that I have been professionally involved in either the music or entertainment industry for the last 20 years and as a fan of all genre’s of music since year “dot” – in my case, the mid 60’s – what a decade, wish I was old enough to remember it!

To verify all this manic attention to detail  please do check my feedback, which I go to great lengths to keep positive and my buyers are both cool and kind enough to leave.

OVER A THOUSAND POSITIVE’S CAN’T BE WRONG FOLKS!!!

NO VINYL WILL EVER BE DISPATCHED FROM MY ORGANISATION IN A JIFFY BAG! IT DOESN’T WORK!!!

My thanks for looking at my listing and checking out all this blurb – or, if you’ve not, and there’s been a fracas or the like, I guess that you’ve just read this for the first time and discovered that this does actually answer most of “those” questions! Hope this finds you under “blue skies” and listening to some groovy tunes on the greatest format ever!

Cheers,

Rod.
