Elvis Rock ‘n’ On was made byElvis Presley, also known simply as Elvis, known as the King of Rock andRoll, he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20thcentury. Presley's energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocativeperformance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences acrosscolour lines brought both great success and initial controversy. Presley’smusic career began in Memphis in 1954, at Sun Records with producer SamPhilips, who wanted to bring the sound of African American music to awider audience. RCA Victor acquired Presley’s contract and his firstsingle on the label, Heartbreak Hotel, was released in January 1956 and becamea number-one hit in the United States. Within a year, RCA Victor would sell tenmillion Presley singles. Presley went on to make numerous films and albumsprior to an extended Las Vegas concert residency and a string of highlyprofitable tours. After years of prescription drug abuse and unhealthy eatinghabits severely compromised his health, Presley died unexpectedly in August,1977 at his Graceland estate at the age of 42. Having sold roughly 400million records worldwide, Presley is one of the best-selling musicartists of all time, and widely acclaimed as the best-selling solo artist.
