Presented over 350 pages with lavishly illustrated, high quality images, many unseen photographs and graphics, this volume (from A to M), features the stories of 55 of those 100+ songs. Every song has been thoroughly researched to the same high standard as the author's previous trilogy, Elvis: The Best Of British. In early interviews Elvis divulged that spiritual music was his first love and this he continued to publicly reaffirm. His love of this genre was always the strongest despite him being acclaimed the 'King of Rock 'n' Roll' but, ironically, he was presented with three Grammy awards all for spiritual music and the stories of these iconic and prestigious songs are contained within this book.
For the first time, all of Elvis' religious music, recorded between 1956 and 1977, is fully documented. He had the unique talent to include aspects of rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues and country music into his gospel songs. Many of these songs are centuries-old; some relatively new and there were even a few written specially for him. Elvis' three sacred full-length concept albums, His Hand In Mine, How Great Thou Art and He Touched Me, represented three completely different styles of religious music and these, along with his many other inspirational songs, have also been expertly analysed and catalogued.
