Elroy Dietzel, member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, was born 8/27/1936 in Sequin, Texas and died in May of 1990. This original 45 is very rare and the record definitely would have been a big hit if it had been given the luxury of the right promotion and distribution at that time. Elroy was also a talented writer and even had Joe Melson in his group. (Joe later co-wrote "Crying & "Only The Lonely" with Roy Orbison). It was at age 14 that Elroy moved, with his foster parents, to Midland from Santa Anna, Texas. It was here (1955) he organized The Rhythm Bandits (Larry Parks-Bill Chance-Richard Matlock-Joe Melson). In 1956, Jesse Smith (Bo-Kay Records) took the boys to Clovis, N.M.to record at Norman Petty Studios. A short time later both sides became regional hits, getting airplay on most of the radio stations across west Texas. The country stations played "Precious Desires". The rock stations played "Teenage Ball". Elroy had TV & radio shows and he became a 50's west Texas Teen Idol. In 1959 the area's greatest Pure Rockabilly Singer hung up his Rock & Roll shoes forever.
This record is on the original Bo-Kay label. It does have surface scratches but both sides play all the way through without any skipping. There is VERY slight warping to one side of the record. The label is scuffed, but intact with no writing, labels or tears. The red writing is all very clear. This is a true find for the rockabilly collector.
