Description

The single has never been released but it came from the "A New World Record" 1976 sessions. This hit 1976 LP was the record that secured Jeff Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra as a huge international rock band. The single was recently uncovered and limited numbers were printed as Promos and given away in a competition held by an ELO Online Fan Club. I was lucky enough to win the competition.

Recently I tried to auction off the single itself, but was told I couldn't do that because the single stated "not-for-resale" and I was also told I was breaching Ebay policy. I did some research and found out that the "not-for-resale" actually only applies to the vendor of the original single, in this case the ELO Online Fan Club, But just to be sure I wasn't wrong I reworded the item auction to make it clear that I was no longer selling the single. I was in fact just selling the sleeve.

I received a lot of emails against the selling of this single accusing me of being ungrateful and unfaithful. All I can say to those people is that I consider myself an ELO fan, However, like many ELO fans I have a right to sell my items. I have in the past sold off limited edition posters and promotional ELO material - without any hassle. After all the single was won fair and square and is now my property to sell. I would like to add that I also received many emails that stated I was right to sell the single from people who expressed that if they had won they would do exactly the same!

I logged on this morning only to find that Ebay had cancelled my auction listing for two main reasons,

1. I provided a link to the Face The Music Website - The place where I won the single and where you can find more details of this.

2. That I had misrepresented or been misleading in the title of my advertisement.

I'm very sorry to all at the Face The Music Website I wasn't aware that I would cause any bad feeling by providing a link to your website in order to assure provenance of the single. I hope you accept my sincerest apologies.

As for the second reason for removal I completely agree, and at the time I adjusted the advertisement I did consider restarting the auction under a different heading - but because I'd already established a firm bidding base I didn't want to disappoint anyone. My apologies to all those people who placed bids. I hope you will place similar bids this time. Ironically, it was my changing of the auction description that led to the auction being cancelled by ebay! Rest assured everyone, I am selling this single.
