There are few voices that have moved between the world of jazz singing and classical repertory as easily as that of Eileen Farrell.
Her ability to launch an enormous voice within an opera hall is well noted. That that same voice can also float on a note like a feather has also claimed praise, and will impress you here, on one of Farrell’s last jazz recordings for Keith Johnson’s Reference Records.
Here, with accompaniment from pianist Loonis McGlohon and trumpeter Joe Wilder, Miss Farrell delivers Harold Arlen’s LET’S FALL IN LOVE, I’VE GOT THE WORLD ON A STRING, COME RAIN OR COME SHINE, AS LONG AS I LIVE, and HAPPINESS IS A THING CALLED JOE, among others.
Worthy of any audiophile library, this copy of FARRELL SINGS ARLEN has a jacket without major fault; inside, the stout platter is all ashine and should play near mint.
