This was the very first album by the classic Dave Stewart-led Egg, a band who pushed the avant-garde element of the Canterbury sound to its true limits. It's a very rare item indeed!

Including the improbably named track 'the song of mcgillicuddie the pusillanimous or don't worry james your socks are hanging in the coal cellar with thomas', the album is a true masterpiece of prog weirdness. The sound is rawer than the band's two later albums, The Polite Force and The Civil Surface, and the band really stretch out on side B's 'Symphony No2', but also prove they can be concise with the oddly magnetic 'While growing my hair' and classically gassed-up with 'Fugue in D Minor'. It's an unmissable classic of the genre!

The record itself is in near-mint condition, with no visible marks - the sleeve is in very good condition, with a few small raised areas and marks on the front laminate, a few scuff blemishes and a little ringwear on the back cover, and a small penned initial on the 'nova' logo on the back.
