Description
Note: price has been marked down from $50.00 to $40.00 because we felt that we put too high of a starting price... Hello ! Up for auction is a used copy of Donald Byrd's 1959 album "Off To the Races" released on Blue Note Records. Catalogue number is BLP 4007. This is a monural pressing. This might be an early original pressing because it contains the 47 West 63rd NYC address on the label. It also contains the so called "deep groove" on the label, on both sides. You will have to check out the photographs to determine for yourself as we are not experts on Blue Note releases. We are not completely sure about this one, but this might be Donald's first album for Blue Note Records. The label is in very good shape with only a few spindle marks. All of the print is clear and intact. The record itself is G+/VG-/VG depending on how one looks at it. There are a few scuffs here and there but nothing bad at all. The LP is pretty clean overall. There are a few more marks on side two but not bad. Contains the RVG stamp and the "ear mark" in the dead wax. A well-mastered album by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder designed for listening pleasure even in mono. Crystal clear sound. We played this back with a Sumiko Pearl cartridge and stylus. Now, on to the cover. It is G+/VG- with some standard shelf wear. This item was apparently shelved in a bedroom for twenty years. There are some scuffs and ring wear on the front cover on that "clarifoil" like material. It is a laminate to keep the cover glossy, but unforunately some of the gloss is gone. The top left-hand corner has some damage. It is moderate looking. There is a moderate corner dent on the top right-hand corner. The spine is still in good shape and is still readable when shelved. Now on to the back of the cover. The back has a few more issues. First of all, there is some writing on the rear liner notes. Two times, once in green magic marker and once again in blue ink. It looks like a scribble mark but it is most likely someone's last name. We won't attempt to remove the writing. Hopefully that flaw can be overlooked. There is some light ring wear and a little bit of discoloration on top. It is a little bit brown. There is some damage to the upper right-hand corner. (same corner as the front upper left-hand corner) The slick is separating just a little bit from the right-hand edge. Comes with original printed Blue Note catalogue sleeve. Go ahead and check out the photographs for a further visual description.
