Description

Here's the background on how I acquired these master tapes. My mother in-law's deceased brother was
a record producer/executive in LA. As far as I know he was mildly successful in the music industry. When he passed away
approx 15-20 yrs ago, his sister (my mother in-law) acquired the tapes. I have no idea how he originally acquired these tapes. We came across these tapes while looking through my father in-law's LP collection. Unfortunately I have
no way to play these to confirm authenticity but based on the "Gold Star Recording Studio" sheets attached to these
tapes, they look like the real deal. I was very reluctant to sell these since I'm a part time performing drummer, and
knowing that Hal Blaine and the wrecking crew are likely on these Masters, I feel like this is a significant
piece of recording history. But as I mentioned, I have no way to play these and they will only end up collecting
dust in my basement. I would much rather get these into the hands of someone that can play them. There
is one Dobie Gray song on one of the Masters titled "The Outside World" that appears to have never been
released. That could be a significant find. There's also one song titled "4th Trk" on one of the Masters that
could be an unreleased song.

Here are the Dobie Gray songs on these Masters as they appear on the attached recording studio sheets along with any other commentary that might be significant. All of these songs are on the Charger label LP "Dobie Gray - Sings For "In" Crowders That Go "Go-Go"" released in May 1965 with the exception of "The Outside World" (and possibly 4th Trk) which appears to be unreleased unless the title was changed at some point.

1/29/65 Master - Blue Ribbons, Mister Engineer (titled "Mr. Engineer" on LP and single)
Client listed as Crusader. Charger label (LP and singles from this LP were released on the Charger label) was a subsidiary
label of the Crusader label.

2/24/65 Master - A Go Go (titled "See you at the "Go-Go"" on LP and single), In Hollywood, Monkey Jerk,The Outside World (unreleased?)
3/4/65 Master - In Hollywood, 4th Trk (mystery song), Walk with LoveRecorder listed as "Larry" on Gold Star sheet. I'm going to guess that this was Larry Levine who was famous for helping
Phil Spector create the "Wall of Sound" in the 1960s.
