Description
This is the Dire Straits LP Brothers In Arms, housed in a unique Philips promotional diecut gatefold jacket, with a small pocket for the LP. A portion of the LP sleeve can be viewed through the guitar-shaped hole in the front of the wraparound jacket.
These specially packaged copies of the LP Brothers In Arms were issued to Philips sales staff as part of an internal promotion whereby they could receive CDs, LPs, and even Dire Straits tickets if they sold a certain number of Philips products. Philips was a sponsor of Dire Straits' Australian tour in 1986.
Very hard to find and produced in unknown numbers, this is a rare opportunity to snag one of these impressive items.
The LP is a regular Australasian copy from 1985.
Condition:
The promotional sleeve is in overall VG condition. It does show some general wear including along the spine (see pics), some light ringwear at top (front and back, see pics) and a corner crease bottom right of the front gatefold. Overall though it makes for a great display piece. Internally, the white areas of the gatefold show some discolouration (foxing), and some small patches where the coloured portion of the sleeve itself has rubbed off onto the white areas. It may be possible to clean this up, I haven't attempted it. Otherwise, the inside of the wraparound has no writing, tears, stamps, stickers, tape, etc.
The vinyl is visually in NM condition, looks to be rarely played. The label is clean with little or no spindle wear.
The LP sleeve is in VG condition, overall very solid, some minor creasing in several places along the spine but nothing serious. Someone has written their name at top right on the front cover in light blue pen - visible but not overwhelmingly so (see pictures). Minor ringwear is visible at top front of sleeve. The insert does suffer a bit from discolouration (foxing) but otherwise has no tears, writing, etc.
