Description

• The Delmore Brothers (Alton and Rabon) revolutionized country music by merging traditional Appalachian close-harmony vocal styles with low-slung, boogie-woogie blues rhythms. King 803 features their monumental hit "Blues Stay Away From Me," backed with the older-style hillbilly breakdown "Goin' Back To The Blue Ridge Mountains".
• Recording Year: 1949 (Side A recorded May 6, 1949; Side B recorded October 2, 1946).
"Blues Stay Away From Me" was recorded against the backdrop of a changing music industry where "Hillbilly" and "Race" records were being re-branded by Billboard into "Country & Western" and "Rhythm & Blues." The song captures the profound post-war existential anxiety of 1949. Its haunting, minimalist structure and inclusion of Wayne Raney’s amplified harmonica created a crucial evolutionary bridge between country string bands and early rockabilly.
The session featured country guitar legend Zeke Turner alongside R&B pioneer Henry Glover on bass. The song was so influential that it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2007.
• Condition Report: Visually graded as Very Good (V) due to superficial surface marks, light graying in the grooves, and typical handling wear expected from a well-loved shellac disc. However, it plays back significantly better at an Excellent Minus (E-) level, delivering a strong, clear audio performance with minimal ambient surface noise and no deep clicks or pops.
