Description
On offer here is a copy of Machine Head by Deep Purple, released in Quadraphonic on the Purple label in 1972, catalogue number Q4TPSA 7504.
Stereo copies of this album are fairly easy to come by, but the Quadraphonic copies are extremely rare due to the small numbers pressed and the tiny numbers sold.
Quadraphonic was a system whereby instead of the usual two channel stereo four channels were remixed and whilst it could be played and heard fine on a normal stereo system, a SQ encoder had to be bought with another pair of stereo speakers making four in all to hear the four channels, and very few people decided to go that route so Quadraphonic was dropped.
The gatefold laminated sleeve made by Garrod and Lofthouse Ltd. is in Excellent Plus condition with no laminate lift shelf or ring wear, the spine is square with all text perfectly clear with just a couple of small creases near the spine.
The sleeve has the SQ Quadraphonic symbols on the front and details of the system in a box on the rear.
The lyric insert is in unmarked Excellent Plus condition
The vinyl has a glossy mirror like shine to both sides. I have played this all the way through on my system (Michell Gyrodek with SME series IV arm, Dynavector coil cartridge, Naim Pre Amp and Twin Mono Power Amps, B & W Nautilus speakers) and the sound quality is fantastic with no clicks pops jumps or surface noise, rated Excellent Plus.
The original die cut polylined inner is included which explains the SQ Quadraphonic system, this is in Excellent Plus condition.
Altogether an wonderful UK copy of this now very rare album in this format, try finding another!!
The record will be sent outside of it's cover in a polythene sleeve sandwiched between two 12" cardboard stiffeners in a heavy duty record mailing envelope as used by Mail Order record companies which are made by Covers 33. It will be sent within 3 days of receiving payment, by PayPal only please and this is only open to UK bidders, thanks.
