Baron Elmo Enterprises proudly presents a heavy psych-infused vinyl classic from contemporary rock behemoths DEAD MEADOW: their Howls From the Hills lp, released in 2001 by the Tolotta label, now out of print. These guys got a lot of great press and some very impressive sales with their Matador debut Shivering King and Others, but they had a couple of equally staggering discs in the racks of better record stores before that fine album, this being the second. Dead Meadow steals black-hot fire from on high to fuel their humungous rock engine… a monster machine that will cradle you in a soothing lysergic haze, even as it grinds your body into the sod. This album truly captures the best of two musical worlds: the sustained explorations of great psychedelic rock, coupled with the head-bobbing riff damage of vintage Black Sabbath. Imagine if Ozzy and the boys had been gobbling Orange Sunshine instead of packing their nostrils with Peruvian flake, and you’ll get the idea. Maximal heaviosity, man. Fans of Dead Meadow’s more recent albums will be knocked outta their La-Z-Boys by this one. Howls From the Hills has been out of print in all formats since the shutdown of Tolotta Records several years ago… and there are no plans to restore it to the catalog anytime soon. The record shows slight wear, but looks fine and plays beautifully… while the cover is in good shape except for a thin rip on the back.
