DAVID BOWIE

RARE RED

LOW

VINYL

For anyone interested in this record I have photographed a small article from Record Collector which shows this LP listed in the top 200 rarest UK albums..

As most Bowie fans know Low was released in 1977 on black vinyl only. In 1982/83 all Bowie's back catalogue was reissued on the RCA green label. As you can see the label on the red vinyl has a different design from the finished black vinyl. Also one shade of green is paler than the other. This would indicate that the red vinyl LP was pressed up before the labels had been suitably approved. the catalogue number is the same on both LP's INTS5065.

Whoever the engineer was in the RCA pressing plant has taken great care in making this LP.The red colour is bright and true with no unwanted colours mixed in. The labels are precise and clear and there is a matrix number stamped in the run out groove.

Only about 20 or so of these LP's were pressed. I can only assume RCA had plans to release Low as a limited edition red vinyl collectors issue. For whatever reason Bowie must have rejected this idea, the plan was shelved and the records pressed were stored away.

Perhaps now the true nature of this rare album can be seen in a better light, and hopefully any misunderstandings have been solved. There is a reserve on this album but not an unreasonable one. Please remember this has been recognised by Record Collector and although the photo is a poor one it gives some idea about this albums legendary status.
