Description

DUNCAN MACKAY - CHIMERA (VERTIGO 6356 100, S. AFRICA 1974)  This is a total MONSTER progressive psych album, Bass, Drums and keyboard trio at times a little reminiscent of (ELP)EMERSON, LAKE AND PALMER, but with an eerie trippy psychedelic freakiness that ELP never had.  3 long tracks MORPHEUS (11:14) ; TWELVE TONE NOSTALGIA (8:08); WITCHES (19:38).  Lots of swirly HAMMOND ORGAN, PIANO, ARP SYNTHESIZER, CLAVICHORD, VOCALS (SOME WITH EERIE EFFECTS), DRUMS, BASS.  There's no way you can absorb everything in one listen, leaves you wanting to go back for another play!!  This album is just so amazing and has so much going on that it's hard to describe, but there are classical influenced moody parts, psychedelic doomy dark eerie parts, swirly organ parts, psychotic pieces played at blistering speed on the keyboard that almost defy gravity.  So maybe file under ELP on ACID.  Beautiful fold out cover with cool fantasy psych art, nice pics, liner notes and lyrics on inside cover, BLUE / SILVER Vertigo label? (Never seen one like this before.) Cover has some minor ringwear, spinewear, a few dark smudges near opening and a tiny cover peel at bottom right corner.  Vinyl plays mostly EX to NM with a few places where you can hear short-lived or singular isolated clicks or lite pops, but definately nothing serious.  SORRY FOLKS, BUT THIS IS A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME FIND THESE DAYS, SO NEED A GOOD HOME FOR THIS BABY.  The record was mixed at PYE STUDIOS, LONDON UK!!
