Description

"Duke Ellington" radio show transcription discs produced by The National Broadcasting Company NBC Reference Recording.  One complete 30 minute radio program on these two 16 inch, one sided, black lacquer acetate coated aluminum, 33 1/3 rpm discs.  These discs were recorded for reference purposes only and not available to the general public, very rare!

Songs by Paul Whiteman & His Orchestra include "Zip A Dee Doo Dah", "How Are Things In Glocca Morra" vocal Mindy Carson, "Helly My Baby" played in 1899 style, then in 1947 style, "Another Night Like This" vocal Johnny Thompson, "Dark Eyes"

These two discs contain a complete radio broadcast featuring Duke Ellington & His Orchestra performing live from The Blue Note In Chicago August 13, 1952

Songs include "Tulip Or Turnip" vocal Ray Nance, "Ting-A-Ling" (composed by Louie Bellson), "Flamingo" vocal Jimmy Grissom, "Rockin' In Rhythm", "Sophisticated Lady", "Take The A Train" vocal Betty Roche, "Flying Home" cut off by closing announcement

Other personnel include Louie Bellson (drums), Wendell Marshall (bass), Jimmy Hamilton (clarinet), Ray Nance (violin, trumpet), Harry Carney (clarinet, sax), Clark Terry (trumpet), Cat Anderson (trumpet)

Please see the scans of the disc as to their condition.  The discs are cloudy even with a cleaning with Disc Doctors solution.  There are a couple of indentations on the disc with part 2 of the program that do not effect play.  There is light surface noise, especially at the start of part 1, but becomes much less noticeable by the 2nd song - the discs sound better than they look.  Perhaps someone else can give these discs a better cleaning than I could.  Discs are in very good condition with very good to excellent- sound

Please note that, due to their size, most standard turntables will not play 16 inch radio transcriptions.  For $10 I can make a CD copy of both discs for the buyer only
