Description
Duck Rock is an album released by British impresario Malcolm McLaren. It was originally issued in 1983 by Island Records among others. The album mixes up styles from South Afrca, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and the United States, including hip hop. The album proved to be highly influential in bringing hip hop to a wider audience. Two of the singles from the album, "Buffalo Gals" and "Double Dutch", became major chart hits on both sides of the Atlantic. The album artwork was designed by Dondi White and Nick Egan, with the illustration by Keith Haring. Guest musicians featured on this album include Trevor Horn, Anne Dudley, J. J. Jeczalik, and Thomas Dolby.
FUN FACT: Side recordings that Horn, Dudley and Jeczalik made in between takes of Duck Rock would eventually become the first album of the Art of Noise, Into Battle with the Art of Noise.
Duck Rock was ranked at number nine among the "Albums of the Year" for 1983 by NME. The album garnered accolades from other publications in the years following its release. In 2013, NME ranked Duck Rock at number 298 on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 2018, Pitchfork ranked Duck Rock at number 200 on its list of the 200 best albums of the 1980s
THIS COPY is a 1st Specialty pressing from 1983 on the Island label (see Notes, below). It is a PROMO copy, as identified by a stamp top center on the back cover. Note that someone has scraped off what presumably may have been a number at the top of the promo stamp. (see photo).
The vinyl has some visible marks, but per a close test listen, they do not affect playback in any way. The vinyl is in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition.
The original cover is in Very Good Plus [VG+] or better condition, with the only flaw being the scraped off part of the promo stamp, as desribed above.
The original inner sleeve - which is plain white with square corners and no centrol label hole - has a couple of corner wrinkles. Otherwise it is in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition, with not splits or other flaws.
The original insert is three pages connect as one long sheet. One side has photos, including one full page Keith Haring artwork, and all lyrics are on the flip side of the three pages. I couldn't fit the full length of the three pages into a single viewable photo, but the photos show all of the pages. This original insert is in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition, with no tears, writing, etc.
