This auction is for an original UK 1st pressing of "Dr Z- Three Parts To My Soul- Spiritus Manes Et Umbra"
1971 UK 1st press on Vertigo Swirl 6360048.
The multi-foldout cover is in fantastic EX shape: Being Fragile as it is, it really doesn't turn up like this often: usually you see creases and tears along the die-cut area of the heart but this one is almost perfect with just some light scuffing, some light wear and scuffing around the corners and one superficial line mark in the backcover (refer to picture 9 below) . The flip doors are near perfect with an intact die-cut with sharp edges (please look at the photos below!). The backcover has some very light ringwear on top.
The vinyl is very clean and shiny as you can see. Just a a few fainth hairlines seen under direct sunlight, otherwise pretty clean, looks NM and plays EX to EX+. Some quiet parts have the unavoidable light tics or noises in the background.
The Swirl bag is the original bag that came with Dr. Z, not a replacement! It's in nice shape with some yellowing along the edges and more on the lower left side corner, but intact with no tears or rips.
A truly fantastic item and surely the gem of any collection! The record builds itself on a fundamental concept: The idea that Human life is divided in three parts that are in continuous discord with each other. This philosophical concept is mirrored in the trifold construction of the cover that contains several symbols and beckons for a "da Vinci Code" analysis which i will leave in the hands of experts..

The band was lead by North Wales University professor Keith Keyes, who handles keyboards & vocals, with Bob Watkins on drums, and Rob Watson on bass.
The basic theme for the album is that, in the afterlife, your soul is divided into three parts; Spiritus, Manes et Umbra.
Spiritus, which represents the inherent good side of Man, the side of beauty, gentleness and goodness. The Manes, the part of the soul which inhabits the underworld, more benevolent than malevolent, but still mixing with the Damned & the Umbra, the shade of the soul which refuses to leave the Earth and stays to haunt the world.
The album was produced by Patrick Campbell-Lyons of the band Nirvana.
It has all the right ingredients to be the classic it truly is.
Way ahead of its time, the majesty & power of the Harpsichord drive this album to occasional very great heights, though it will never be standard radio fodder!
This is actually one of the few 'lost prog' albums that deserves its legendary status - Very heavy and dark with a baroque feel.
Reports vary as to the actual retail sales of the album between eleven & eighty as do reports of the quantity of surviving copies - Either way, very very few!
This is far & away one of the rarest albums on the planet, especially to find in this superb condition.
