Well, folks, not only to you get a chance to grab an ultra-rare MONO mix of these two classic Doors songs – you also get to have what is by far the rarest original US Doors picture sleeve in existence. In our 35 years of collecting, this is exactly the SECOND copy we’ve ever seen (and the only one we’ve actually OWNED)

Why so rare? Well, this was the first single by the band. And not only was it the first, it was miserably unsuccessful, flopping big time and just about failing to chart. The band was on the verge of giving up and disintegrating and Elektra was on the verge of dumping the band, when the follow-up single (abridged version of Light My Fire) ignited the Billboard charts, climbing all the way to # 1 and propelling the Doors’ career into the stratosphere. Suddenly, all doors were open to The Doors.

Needless to say, those few copies of the group’s first single disappeared without a trace, never to be seen or heard from again; of those few, even less had the original picture sleeves (most copies were distributed without any sleeve, in plain, gray, generic Elektra stock sleeves). We comfortably and without any reservations estimate that probably less than 300 copies of the original picture sleeves exist worldwide, of which probably less than 100 are in better-than-decent condition.

·       CONDITION:

·       45-RPM SINGLE RECORD:

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted below, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the normal room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)            WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

We could not "feel" these abrasions with our fingertip, and we suspect that these abrasions ARE NOT audible.

(b)            PLEASE NOTE: This - of course - is an ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       PICTURE SLEEVE

THE SLEEVE IS ABOUT VG+(+) / VERY GOOD PLUS+

-         Sleeve has some light ring wear; On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2

-         Sleeve shows some light yellowing, apparently from aging.

-         Sleeve has a few visible wrinkles / creases along the opening (upper side) as well as the sides

-         Sleeve has a cutout hole punched IN THE LABEL AREA. This affects the record, which also has a small cutout hole in the label area.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE SLEEVE:

-         No split seams

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents

-         No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-         No writing

-         No stamps

-         No peel-off marks

-         No stains

-         No mold or mildew spots

-         No stickers or labels

-         No water damage

-         No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.

-         No warping

-         No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-         No bar codes

-         No RIAA stamps or stickers.
