Description

DONALD BYRD “Byrd In Flight” Blue Note 4048, “RVG”, P , DG, Mono Vinyl.

This is the 1962, first edition, mono, “RVG” stamped, Deep Groove, “P” pressing of DONALD BYRD’s “Byrd In Flight” on the “47 West 63rd” labels of Blue Note Records BLP 4048. Musicians include Byrd, Jackie McLean, Hank Mobley, Duke Pearson, Doug Watkins, Lex Humphries.

VINYL plays with consistent low-to-medium-loud surface noise, but the noise is beneath the music, which is delivered powerful, clear, and very dynamic throughout. Some repeating ticks (Side1, #2; Side 2, #2). Vinyl has a handful of hairline marks, 3 feelable. Strong gloss both sides. The deep groove “47 West 63rd” labels (“R” under “Note”) are clean, with light spindle marks under direct light. See photos.

Front LAMINATED COVER is in very good condition, wear and aging evident, some peeling at opening.  Spine is excellent with some cracking at top. Corners worn. Top seam worth, three-inch split. Lower seam worn.  The “BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 43 West 61st St., New York 23” back jacket is clean with aging. See photos.

This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers.
