Description

Up for auction is the incredible rare Dollar Brand (Abdullah Ibrahim) LP "Underground in Africa" on Mandla Records, KRS-114, from 1974.

Lineup is: Dollar Brand (Abdullah Ibrahim), piano; Nazier Kapdi, drums; Lionel Beukes, Fender bass; Basil Chetzee, 1st tenor; Arthur Jacobs, 2nd tenor; Robbie Jansen, Alto.

Tracks are:

  • Kalahari
  • Ornettes Cornet
  • All Day & All Night Long
  • Gwidza (In Memory of Cambel Gwidza)

This is the third recording from the partnership of Abdullah Ibrahim and producer Rashid Vally. The previous recordings under this partnership were Dollar Brand +2 (Peace) and Dollar Brand +3 (with Kippie Moeketsi). Underground in Africa was recorded in 1974 with Oswietie - a new group of rock and soul musicians and issued on a new imprint Mandla.

Record is in MINT unplayed condition and comes from a warehouse find.

The album cover is a gatefold and is the thin laminated cardboard common to English and other overseas recordings. Cover is in excellent condition with very minimal noticeable corner wear.

Both record and cover are bagged and bubble wrap is put between record cover and record and cardboard before being wrapped in cardboard record mailer. Extra cardboard or bubble wrap is used to protect corners. If you have a postal service that is particularly hard on packages, let me know. Since I ship worldwide, I realize that some packages might need a little extra padding or care.
