Don't get him confused with footwork fanatic DJ Spinn. This new one from honcho hip-hop head DJ Spinna - rival heads from Brooklyn will roll - locks in at a lurching, ultra-wonky wapentake of half-step beats in the 80BPM range. Commendably unwieldy, this'll be a difficult release to nod along to if you're used to your beats neatly gridlined, Tron-style: no, this 12-track set runs from the woozy bounce of 'Yo Herb' and 'Walk Off' to the shimmering textures of 'Kiss The Lonely Sunshine' and 'Flower Stone', then into the deep-pocket grooves of 'Sticky Funk', 'Galaxy Blue' and 'Purple Meltdown'. None stoop to the point of cosseting or handholding the listener; all pack the perfect mix of wimhof weight and stepwise stagger, each track landing with an onomatopoeic "bam!"
