"Master of the Moon" from 2004 was Ronnie James Dio's last foray with his eponymous band, a collection of tunes that came like a much anticipated epitaph.
This album brings ten songs which are closer to what Dio did in the 70s and early 80s with Rainbow and Black Sabbath, bringing a dark, intriguing and nocturnal collection which blends hard rock with 'epic' lyrics, without being ludicrous or cheesy.

"Master of the Moon", the Deep Purple-esque "Shivers", the elaborate "The Man Who Would Be King" or "I Am" (reminiscent of Dio's early years) come like the highlights of an album that, like Dio's two other CDs from the 2000s, sticks to traditional metal, after his unpopular, 'modern-sounding' albums from the 90s: "Strange Highways" and "Angry Machines".

Another slab of fine tracks include "In Dreams", "Death by Love", the emotional and robotized "The Eyes", and "Living the Lie", coming like an enjoyable epilogue, which encompasses and summarizes the spirit of Ronnie James Dio and his immortal music.
