Dexter Gordon - tenor saxophone
Kenny Drew - piano
Paul Chambers - bass
Philly Joe Jones - drums

Dexter Gordon's second recording for the Blue Note label is a solidly swinging affair, yet constantly full of surprises. It's not unexpected that Gordon's tenor at this time -- 1961 -- is one of the most enjoyable in mainstream jazz, but his transition from the cool California scene to the hotter music environs of New York City had energised his sound and attitude.
A first-time pairing with bassist Paul Chambers has something to do with this, but it also inspires pianist Kenny Drew to a great extent, while drummer Philly Joe Jones is his reliable, energetic self, and always works well with Gordon

LABELS: EXCELLENT
Clean, bright and unmarked labels with moderate/heavy spindle rash.
This copy has clearly been well loved but judging by the cleanliness of the audio performance I would say only ever played on a quality sound system
VINYL Visual: VERY GOOD+
Both surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen with light hairlines and some more prominent but superficial fingernail marks - these have little/no audio impact
VINYL Audio: EXCELLENT+
Sensational sound performance - crystal clear, clean, fresh and incredibly immediate with a fantastic loud cut.
My play-check at loud volume revealed no major audio issues of note - just the (very) occasional soft, light click but nothing ever intrusive otherwise, the whole set plays beautifully throughout with no scratches, no loud clips or pops, no surface noise/crackle and no evident groove-wear or distortion
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
The front laminated thick card sleeve is in great shape with very little wear to speak of - just a small bump to the bottom opening corner - otherwise, clean, unmarked and solid with no splits.
INNER SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
Not the original but a contemporary UK early 60s EMI poly-lined inner.
Probably replaced by the original owner to give the record more protection than the Blue Note original as this one is lined

ALL RECORDS ARE PACKAGED WITH THE VINYL OUTSIDE OF THE SLEEVE TO PREVENT ANY 'KNIFING' DURING TRANSIT
A PROTECTIVE POLY SLEEVE, NEW INNER SLEEVE WITH ANTI-STATIC LINER, QUALITY BOX (NOT ENVELOPE) MAILER AND AMPLE STIFFENERS ARE ALWAYS USED TO ENSURE THAT YOUR RECORD ARRIVES SAFELY
