“Vinyl Nights” are very popular here in rural Suffolk.
You take your precious discs along, and the DJ reluctantly plays them, too loud and with a very obvious lack of interest.
Well, if you take along THIS record, to a “Vinyl Night” it will be an ideal opportunity for you to enter into yet another pointless argument with some pontificating Ted about “what was the first ever rock ‘n’ roll record”.
While selections from “Tales from Topographic Oceans” boom out among the pints and peanuts you can tell him about The Delmore Brothers on 78rpm King 527, with “Hillbilly Boogie” and “I'm Sorry I Caused You To Cry”.
It will confuse everybody.
Yes, look, it’s not “Rocket 88” but it is a GREAT record from March 1946, and this toon, together with the Delmores rather similar “Freight Train Boogie” led directly to the wonderful music we all love to argue about in drinking establishments up and down the land.
This is the late 40’s/early 50’s first reissue with the slightly less ornate label. It plays beautifully. There ARE a couple of light scroffly marks, one on each side. I have photographed these in harsh sideways light so you can see them. My photos make ‘em look a darn sight more lethal than they actually are. You could happily DJ with this disc, and with the “mono button” pressed it’ll gladden the heart of any boogie maniac.
Condition-wise, let’s call it a very strong VG+ or maybe better.
Buy it now, or I’ll start going on about “Good Rockin’ Tonight” and “The Fat Man”, and we’ll be here all night.
