"Tell Me This Is A Dream"  was produced by Stan Watson, not Thom Bell (who produced the group's earlier recordings), but the album doesn't disappoint, as the Delfonics manage to maintain their traditional sound and style that fans loved on their previous releases, "La La.." and "The Sound of Sexy Soul". Also, when this album was released, Randy Cain had left the group and was replaced by Major Harris (who three years later went solo and recorded the hit "Love Won't Let Me Wait").

The album contains the hit "Hey Love", the first single from the album which was actually released in 1971 (back in those days, the singles were released 6 months to a year before the album dropped, so fans had a preview of what was to come as they anxiously awaited the LP's release). It features Wilbert on lead vocals, as do most of the other songs on the album. He also wrote most of the songs on this release. Other hits include "Walk Right Up To The Sun" and the title track. One of the best songs on the album is "Looking For A Girl". I never understood why this song wasn't released as a single because it definitely qualified as a top-ten hit. Truly one of my favorites! Other notable tracks include "I'm A Man", "Love You Till I Die" and "Baby I Miss You". "Delfonics Theme" is carried over from "The Delfonics" album, but this time with vocals.

The Delfonics recorded one more album after this - 1974's "Alive & Kicking", which was also a great album with several other great hits ("I Told You So", "Think It Over", "Start All Over Again" & "I Don't Want To Make You Wait"), but was very underrated. By that time, disco music was emerging and Thom Bell was long gone producing the Stylistics and the Spinners. Unfortunately, The Delfonics would not be heard from again until 1981 with their "Return" album, which was a total flop. But the group will always be remembered as one of the pioneers of the Philly Sound and their music will stand the test of time.

THE WHITE LABEL PROMO, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed to the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals": the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)             White Promo Label version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released, version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 50:1.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a slight warp in one corner; this has absolutely no effect on the record.

-        Cover has the  original price sticker, which may be possible to remove with a little effort (we did not attempt to)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4  (front side) and 2 (back side)

-         The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the front side

-         Visible shelf wear noted on the top and bottom seams

-         Cover has a minor wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the back panel

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No yellowing from aging

-        No stamps

-        No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No water damage

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
