Recorded over three nights in August 1972, Deep Purple's Made in Japan was the record that brought the band to headliner status in the U.S. and elsewhere, and it remains a landmark in the history of heavy metal music.
Since reorganising with singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover in 1969, Deep Purple had recorded three important albums — Deep Purple in Rock, Fireball, and Machine Head — and used the material to build a fierce live show.
Made in Japan, its selections drawn from those albums, documented that show, in which songs were drawn out to ten and even nearly 20 minutes with no less intensity, as guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and organist Jon Lord soloed extensively and Gillan sang in a screech that became the envy of all metal bands to follow.
The signature song, of course, was "Smoke on the Water," with its memorable riff, but those extended workouts, particularly the moody "Child in Time," with Gillan's haunting falsetto wail and Blackmore's amazingly fast playing, and "Space Truckin'," with Lord's organ effects, maintained the onslaught, making this a definitive treatment of the band's catalogue and its most impressive album.

LABELS: NEAR MINT
All four labels are clean, fresh and unmarked with just a couple of spindle traces on Sides 2,3, and 4 and none on Side 1
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT
All four surfaces shine like new.
Record One is unmarked and even under bright light there is barely a wispy hairline to be seen.
Record Two has some light superficial marks but these are completely harmless
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT
This barely played copy delivers superb sound quality throughout - strong and vibrant and my play-check at loud volume found nothing of note to fault, no loud clicks or pops, no groove wear or distortion and exceptionally clean on the quieter sections.
An outstanding original copy of one, if not the finest live album ever made
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
The outer laminated gatefold is in great condition.
The laminate has a deep glass-like gloss, the edges and spine are unworn and the inner surfaces are bright and unmarked with just a little paper loss bottom edge where the laminate has stuck together when the cover was closed at the factory with the laminate still warm
