Here is a item which you will never see again!
MEGA RARE Deep Purple "Fireball" - Genuine Gold Disc from Sweden. This is a original award presented to Deep Purple by the record company EMI in December 1973 to commemorate 25000 copies sold in Sweden of the classic album Fireball. Record set on velvet background in a glassed, golden frame. Note the engraved plaque at the bottom which is made out of 18 carat gold!!! It has the well known "Cat paw" stamp at the bottom of the plaque which is the official Swedish marking for 18 carat gold.
These original Record Awards were later abolished because they became too expensive to produce. This however is the original Award the way they were presented in the early Seventies, and not one of those boring mass produced Awards which were later introduced. To my knowledge there exists only 6 copies of this Gold Disc Award. The band members were given one each + one copy went to EMI Sweden. I bought this record myself in 1991 from a former employee at EMI Sweden. I have seen similar items with other bands sell for £1000+ here in Sweden.
The original frame has never been opened, however a buyer may want to have the gold plaque polished as the corners, due to age, have become a little darkened. I will not touch it so it's up to a new owner. Also, the album picture has tilted a little to the right and the record label has loosened att little at the bottom. Please see pictures.
Altogether a fabulously, truly unique item if you collect Deep Purple!! I myself have collected records for 25+ years but I want to concentrate on my Black Sabbath collection.
