Description

Massively Rare Original 1968 UK Mono **Near Mint** 1st Pressing 'Shades Of Deep Purple' by Deep Purple!!! Very 1st Mono UK Black/Yellow Pressing of Deep Purple's Debut Album!!!! Super Thick & Chunky Vinyl w/ Yellow Black Parlophone Labels & Laminated Flipback Garrod & Lofthouse Sleeve!!! Complete with Original 1st Press Emitex Poly-Lined Inner Sleeve!!! A Huge Rarity and Impossible to Find like This!!!

You are bidding on the holy-Grail of all Deep Purple records!!!! This is the one every Deep Purple Collector wants in their collection!!! The Mega-scarce true 1968 UK Mono 1st pressing of the absolute psych classic 'Shades of Deep Purple'!!! This is the massively rare original Parlophone Records Mono UK 1st press on the original 1st press Black/Yellow Parlophone labels!!! It was pressed in miniscule amounts in the UK back in 1968 as Deep Purple were a then unknown band!!! The 1st press Mono run was absolutely tiny and numbered in the hundreds only, and of those there are not many left today!!! It was later repressed and issued on Parlophone in the more common Stereo format (YEX) which is still very rare and often commands a price well into 3 figures - A much more common Stereo copy recently sold on eBay for £389!!!) However, to have this on Black Yellow Mono is the  Holy-Grail!!! Now if that wasn't good enough, here for the special bit - this vinyl is in impossible **Near Mint** condition!!! You will never find a better example of this rare record - it is suitable for the highest grade Near Mint psych 1st press collection!!! This has the correct 1//1 matrix endings and comes complete with the mega rare front laminated Garrod & Lofthouse flipback sleeve!!!! This is a seriously rare album that just never shows up anymore here in the UK!!! Do not underestimate the rarity of this album. Finding this record is virtually impossible nowadays. You will not see another copy of this record for a very long time, and you will Never see another in this condition, if there are any left like this today you can bet they are locked up in serious collections and will probably NEVER see the light of day again. This record. like all my other rare offerings, will be very securely packaged so you will receive it exactly as you see it now. Containing the Awesome 'Hush", "Mandrake Root" and the original "Hey Joe" (even better than Hendrix' later cover) this is Deep Purple at their Psychedelic best - do not miss this record!!!

1st Press Matrix:

Side 1 - XEX 689 - 1

Side 2 -  XEX 690 - 1

The Classic Black/Yellow Parlophone Mono centre labels are in Superb Ex++ condition with NO Tears, NO Peeling, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!! There are just the lightest spindle traces that are only really visible when angling the record toward strong light and that's it!!!

The record itself is in truly stunning **Near Mint** condition, and still retains an unbelievable beautiful deep mirror-like sheen and NO groove-wear!!! It is super thick & chunky and is very heavy - it weighs a ton just like the 1st press should do!!! It plays with NO skips or jumps at all, loud pops or hissing at all! It has obviously only been played once or twice at most and has never been played with one of those nasty blunt mono needles of the 1960's. There is just the very lowest level static present in some places, completely unobtrusive and totally background! It would be impossible to find a copy of this record in better condition.

The classic 1st Press Garrod & Lofthouse 'Mono' sleeve is also in great condition!!!  Due to the age, rarity and popularity of this album, the sleeves usually end up trashed and really nasty looking with bashed corners and seam splits etc. This one however has remained in superb condition, and is one the best 1st press 'Mono' sleeves I have seen!!! (it is much better than many of the later sleeves!!!)  The laminate retains ALL of its factory gloss & shine and the purple unlaminated reverse side is remarkably clean and free from grubbiness!!! There are no faults at all, no unwanted writing or scribbles, NO edge wear and a good strong spine with Near Mint legible spine text!!! There is no laminate cracking anywhere (including the spine). Just some light wear to the flipbacks and a little light feathering to the opening edge and that's it!!! This mega rare sleeve easily grades as Excellent, it's as simple as that!!!  What's more, it comes with its original 'EMI' ads inner sleeve, which is in Stunning NR MINT condition with no seam splitting or wear etc!!! This is a seriously rare album that just never shows up anymore here in the UK!!! Do not underestimate the rarity of this album. Finding this record is virtually impossible nowadays. I have tried to show you the record from all angles using extra large images. If you are not sure of anything just email me - I will be happy to help.

Please don't underestimate the rarity of this LP - You will not see another copy of this record for a very long time, and you will Never see another in this condition, if there are any left like this today you can bet they are locked up in serious collections and will probably NEVER see the light of day again.

Please read - It has recently been pointed out to me that some eBay sellers have been using my images without permission. If you are thinking of lifting some images from my pages - please don't. You will be reported and your auction will be removed by eBay. It's not that I mind, in fact its kinda flattering, my real problem is that whoever does this is not showing a true image of the actual record they are selling. The condition of old 1960's & 70's records varies greatly, no two are in exactly the same condition when they are this age. All my pictures are very specific to the actual records I sell and it is wholly misleading to to show these images with reference to a different record - whoever does this is not being fair to the buyer. Thanks for reading.

Please refer to my feedback for the many valuable records I have already sold for reassurance. I will be selling my entire UK 1st Press collection of 1960/70's Psych/Prog./Rock & Folk over the coming months, most of these records are in Mint- condition and many have 3 figure book prices. All will be listed here on eBay UK at a £2.99 start with No Reserve - bookmark my pages. Like the vast majority of my collection, this record has been archived upright in a thick outer PVC sleeve in a smoke & damp free environment for the best part of 20-30 years!

We always combine postage so if you win more than 1 auction you save money on postage costs! We will only ship to non-UK countries via Airmail - we do not use surface mail, it is way too slow and thus increases the risk of records being damaged during transit.

A little note about insurance - Please read carefully... If the value of your record(s) is over £30, your invoice will include an insured option. Being the responsible adults you are, it is entirely up to you to take this up  - we strongly advise you to do this but will not hassle you about it. You either add the required insurance or you don't. If you do add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will get a refund. If you don't add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will not get a refund. Can we be any clearer? I think not.

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards.  If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...

Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.

We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
