Description
Excellent condition copy of this rare 1960 release on Decca Records (SXL 2185-2186- 2 LP set) with its original wide band and groove label design with "Original Recording by...." rim text - ED1. The set comes in a blue plastic folder with a clear plastic window at the front which reveals the front cover of the full libretto. Francesco Molinari-Pradelli conducts the orchestra and chorus of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Rome in a performance of Leoncavallo's Opera "I Pagliacci" with Mario del Monaco as Canio; Cornell MacNeill as Tonio; Gabriella Tucci as Nedda; Renato Capecchi as Silvio and Piero da Palma as Peppe. Side 4 has a song recital by Mario del Monaco with orchestral accompaniement conducted by Ernesto Nicelli.
Condition is excellent. The folder is clean and crisp with no seam splits and hardly any shelf wear. The clear plastic at the front of the folder has suffered a touch of shrinkage and there is a very small (1.5cm) split at the top right. The libretto - which gives the full Italian texts and English translations - is in near perfect condition.
The vinyl is in mint condition no scratches, scuffs or abrasions apart from side 4 does have some marks which may affect play back.on all other sides Playback is unaffected by any ticks, clicks or crackles; surface noise is low and there is no noticeable distortion and no jumps or skips.
This is quite a rare and sought after set and a real treat for music lovers AND audiophiles alike.
