Description

This is a DBX Model 21 Decoder, plus 23 DBX-Encoded vinyl LPs of various sorts bought for testing purposes. (There also two LPs that are non-DBX versions of the DBX versions in the bundle.) The original manual is included.
The DBX decoder connects between a stereo component system's phono preamp and power amplifier, as a "line-level" device. It can also connect through the "tape monitor in/out loop" of an integrated amplifier or receiver. It is switched IN for playing DBX-encoded LPs, or OUT for normal LPs. The DBX process almost completely eliminates the usual pops, ticks, and surface noise associated with vinyl LPs, letting the wide dynamic range of the original master tapes come through. From the Wikipedia article on DBX noise reduction: 
When employed on LPs, the dbx Type-II system reduced the audibility of dust and scratches, reducing them to tiny pops and clicks (if they were audible at all) and also completely eliminated record surface noise. dbx encoded LPs had, in theory, a dynamic range of up to 90 dB. In addition, dbx LPs were produced from only the original master tapes, with no copies being used, and pressed only on heavy, virgin vinyl. Most were released in limited quantities with premium pricing.
This DBX decoder works beautifully, producing the near noiseless playback the system intended. The records are in very good condition, were hardly used, and were stored in cool, dry cabinets.
