Description

On offer is a 1969 LP by DAVY GRAHAM called LARGE AS LIFE AND TWICE AS NATURAL on DECCA, catalogue number SKL 4969.

Davy Graham, an inspiration to John Renbourn and Bert Jansch, was Britain’s first native guitar genius. He opened many doors with his pioneering fusion of folk, blues, jazz, Arabian and Indian music. This, his third album for Decca, is arguably his most wide-ranging and exciting, backed by the cream of Jazz Britannia: Danny Thompson, bass; Jon Hiseman, drums; Harold McNair, flute, and Dick Heckstall-Smith on saxes. It’s a milestone in British jazz as well as British folk.

No power on earth can make this well-loved record anything other than VERY GOOD, with scuffing that’s worse on the quiet bits at the start of ‘Both Sides Now’ and ‘Blue Raga’. Intermittent clicks and pops and low-level surface noise throughout. That said, the audio quality on these old pressings can withstand any battering. It’s possibly to play the album through with unmarred pleasure. There are no jumps or deep scratches. This is a first STEREO pressing.

The sleeve is VERY GOOD+. The laminate front has numerous slight creases and a slightly large crease bottom right of front. Slight wear on corners and a slightly grubby back. There is some spindle-wear on the labels.
