Brilliant and obscure Aussie jazz-funk...
One review states:
"David Fennell’s best album, and a very CTI-esque release on the 44 label. Lots of funky cuts throughout this album, but the best is "Look Before You Leap" with some sweet electric piano soloing from Fennell and the saxophone work of Lee Hutchings underneath Paul Jensen’s funky drums. The whole of Side 2 is a suite with 7 different movements, a few of which are pretty tasty."
He's so right about "Look Before You Leap"!...but he neglected to mention the super-funky guitar, and equally bouncy bass - such a great track.
And by 'pretty tasty' he means the opening movement "City Life" - spacy and funky with a neat fuzztone guitar solo...and "One Horse Town" (4th movement) - well-funky bass & drums, excellent electric piano, and some fine flute playing that'd leave Herbie Mann or Hubert Laws proud (Lee Hutchings again)...plus "Travelling Home" (6th movement) - fast, busy, and funky, with all the above intsruments featuring strongly.
CONDITION - COVER: ( EX ) ...has a couple of small sections where the laminate has lifted...and some very light ringwear...but if not for those, it'd be mint...
CONDITION - RECORD: ( MINT[-] )...has ALL of its original shine and looks pristine!...has NO spindle marks on the labels and actually looked unplayed (until I just gave it a spin just now...so glad I did...an amazing album!)...
CONDITION - LABELS: (Side One: MINT / Side Two: MINT )...
PACKAGING AND MAILING: Absolutely ALL care will be taken when packaging this - record and sleeve will be separated to avoid any damage in transit, and both will be packed in a sealed outer light plastic sleeve between layers of strong very flat and thick card - I've been doing this for a while and have attained a good safe packing standard.
