THIS ITEM IS BEING RELISTED IN THE INTEREST OF FAIRNESS ! I listed it a few weeks ago and there was some shill bidding shenannigans against another bonafide bidder !

The acetate collecting comunity is very closenit so most know what other collectors want . Two bidders who had a beef with a third bidder hyked the bidding to cost the guy money . Ive offerd it to the bidder at the price before the phoney bidding and on his request he asked I relist it . So here we are . The two IDIOTS have been blocked from this and ALL my future auctions .

The reverse side is completely blank  and totally smooth and uncut .

This track has only ever been released on the Ryco sound and Vision boxset ,such a shame it isnt more easily available Bowie made a big mistake not putting this great song on the Young Americans LP .Im sure if you go on youtube you will be able to hear it .

WHAT is an acetate...

Acetates are also known as Master discs or Reference discs .

Acetates are the very first stage in the transferal of music from an electronic signal ,to the actual pressed record .They allow the artist and producer + band to hear what the finished record will sound like without going through the time and expence of starting up the huge record pressing machines and pressing the actual record .(record pressing machines are only used to press large numbers). After all the artist may decide to change the record or scrap it completely . Wich is why acetates are pressed at small independant mastering labs .

Acetates are not made of vinyl . Acetates are made of Aluminum and are coated in cellulose laquer . Due to these materials while they look like vinyl they weigh 5 or 6 times the weight of the same size record .

Promotional copies and test pressings pale in comparrison to acetates both in terms of sound quality (depending on how many times the acetate has been played) ,  and moreso in terms of rarety .The cellulose laquer that coats acetates is made at the very highest level of quality controll . Acetates are also ridiculassly expensive to manufacture therefor record companies normally make only 5 copies of any one record.

After a recording has been taped , edited and equalised , an uncut acetate or "blank" , is sent to a mastering lab where it will be played through an electronic lathe system and electronically transmitted to a cutting needle , so that the music litterally cuts microscopic wiggles analouges to the sound waves that they represent directly into the cellulose acetate laquer . Because of this direct cutting from the master tape combined with the Very high quality of the laquer the sound it emmits is SUBSTANTIALLY SUPERIOR to that of a record .This is of course if the aceate has not been played too much . Acetates are to be played once , recorded to tape and not played again .

An acetate that is approved by the artist and producer is called a Master Laquer . After the laquer has been cut , it is sent to a factory to be electoplated with nickhol from that they make the first stamper called the MOTHER stamper . From that all the records are pressed , the stampers are renewed as they become fatigued through use. Its at this stage that the

Acetate , Mater or Reference disc has done its job and the records have been pressed , the acetate is then disregarded as useless by the industrie so is usually trown away . Those that survive are immediate collectors pieces due to the high quality of the recording and the rarety of the item .

Acetate should be handled with much more care than records .

The cellulose laquer is very brittle and would shatter very easily .

The repeated playing of an acetate damages severely the sound of the item . The needle litterelly scrapes minute particles from the laquer untill one day the music has simply been scraped away . They are very cold to touch like marble and they have a very strong and unmistakeable beautifull acetate smell ( a bit like a new car) that I can only describe as glorious .Well I could describe it another way , but not without being obcene and upsetting the lady bidders ...Yes , they smell as good as that !

The condition of this acetate is very good . It has been played a lot but still sounds very clear it has a lot of small hairlines but this is a loud song that Bowie really belts out so it sounds really good but I wouldnt advise playing it much more . Acetates should not be handled by nacked flesh , they are magnets for grease . However this 10 inch acetate of a 7 inch record has a handling barrier rim of one and a half inches around the inner 7 inches .

I have tried to capture the metal on the inside of the spindle hole the metal is also visable from the outer rim of the circunference of the disc . Ive also included in the pictures a normal 7inch single simply to give this 10 inch acetate some scale . The 7 inch RECORD IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION .

Ive had a couple of emails from collectors who`s opinions are just too important to be ignored .

 Hi Max , and Hi Reto , your input is appreciated so thanks . Acetate collecting is very complicated , forgerys are rife because of the high value acetates bring if they are genuine . To differentiate between a forgery and the real thing is really difficult . Most are one off totally unique items so one has nothing to compare a fake toward . It is at times like this you need people like Max and Reto .

 These collectors are among the worlds most serious acetate collectors and to say they know their onions is really putting it lightly . They both are convinced that this acetate is a fake ,I dont know if its fake or if its real , but I will have to accept Retos and Max`s opinions . 

Here is what I do know , It is 10 inch , it is David Bowie performing his SUPERB 1975 outake After Today (really brilliant song) . It stinks to high heaven of that beautifull acetate smell .

It is DEFINATELY made of the super expensive acetate cellulose laquer . It is on the Trident label . Are the labels genuine ? I dont have a clue , you would need an expert to confirm that and an acetate expert I am not . (Im pretty usefull with LPs though). It is 6 or 7 times the weight of a 10 inch record and it is made of metal under the  laquer (you can see it) . It is cold to touch like the 2 genuine acetates Ive sold over the years . Its also very VERY interesting .It is also very rare .

I have never seen another and dont surpose I ever will .

I think those facts might make this item desirable to collectors that dont want to spend £2000 + on what a genuine acetate of this nature would bring . Anyone remember that Diamond Dogs acetate I sold a few years back for £4400 ?
